The debut album Palomine (1992) was an unexpectedly large success and from then on is Bettie Serveert always one of the leading alternative bands of our country. In addition, it is one of the few Dutch bands with prolonged foreign (United States) success. After the excellent Private Suit (2000) left the band and drummer Reinier Veldman decided the other members of Bettie Serveert a ' sabbatical year '. Singer Carol Vedula formed together with the Belgian Pascal Deweze (Sukilove, Metal Molly) the country music duo Chitlin' Fooks. Guitarist Peter Visser played in the band of Ellen Ten Damme and built a studio in his own House. End 2002 Vedula and fisherman in this brand new studio together to Log 22. It is a sparkling and fresh sounding cd, which despite all modern studio options yet again especially if a typical Bettie Serveert album sounds. The strongest points are again the characteristic guitar play of Peter Visser and the individual texts, which are sung so beautifully by Carol Vedula. Highlights include the sublime opening track on Log 22 Wide Eyed Fools, the first single Smack and the Velvet Underground-like White Dogs. Lows are there simply not: Log 22 is a masterpiece. • Bettie Serveert Bio 2016
BETTIE SERVEERT BIO 2016 The story begins when Canadian-born (Vancouver), Netherlands-reared Carol van Dyk was hired as the live-sound mixer for the celebrated underground band ‘de Artsen’ (the Doctors). Herman Bunskoeke and Peter Visser were band members, Berend Dubbe was their roadie and the musical side project in which all four friends participated became Bettie Serveert. (Since you ask, the name means "Bettie to serve" after Dutch tennis player Bettie Stöve, who lost the Wimbledon Ladies Final in 1977). After a false start in 1986, when the band called itself ‘Betty Serveert’ with a ‘y’, they dissolved after only one gig. The band reformed in 1991 in Amsterdam as Bettie Serveert and quickly caught the ear of Matador Records, Brinkman Records and 4AD's Guernica label for whom they kindly agreed to record their first album 'Palomine', which was released late 1992/early 1993. Two years later, in January 1995, the band recorded their second album 'Lamprey', which was hailed by Melody Maker as the most tangled, desolate, real life guitar sound of the year. They toured extensively with the likes of Belly, Dinosaur Jr, Buffalo Tom, Superchunk, Come and Jeff Buckley. 1997 saw the return of Bettie Serveert in fine form with the release of the long awaited third album 'Dust Bunnies'. It was the first time the Betties benefited from the studio guidance of producer Bryce Goggin (Pavement, Lemonheads). It was the first Bettie Serveert disc that was recorded entirely within the United States, at Bearsville studio in scenic Woodstock, New York. In 1998 the group released a live album of Velvet Underground cover songs 'Bettie Serveert plays Venus In Furs and other Velvet Underground songs'.

A constantly growing army of international talent seekers has Noorderslag in its agenda. Every year they reserve time for the second weekend of January to visit the city of Groningen in the north of the Netherlands. New talent from the UK to France, from Germany to Norway and from Moldavia to Finland is playing there on a growing number of stages. Festivals scout and book the new stars, labels are looking for new signings, artist managers are also on the prowl. Among those hundreds of new talents from all over Europe are also the very best the Dutch have to offer themselves. A lot of them are on the bill for the Saturday night, for the actual Noorderslag Festival in the Oosterpoort venue, that contains eight different stages throughout the building. This gives them the opportunity to show what’s happening in the booming Dutch hiphop scene, the flourishing metal- and guitar rock scenes and in the world famous Dutch dance scene.
