    From reality television to the hyperreal: How do the pressures of reality shows such as Geordie Shore cause their characters to change their physical appearance? Clemency Newman Abstract Looking into the popular reality show Geordie Shore, I will undertake research to answer why it is that the women who appear on the show change their physical appearance and what connection this has to their celebrity status. I hope to argue that because the women are considered lower class, they have no other power than their perceived attractiveness and are therefore pressured into trying to achieve a hyperreal body, relating to Baudrillard’s theory of Simulacra and Simulation. Introduction Reality television is big business, with over 300 reality format shows on air in the US alone (Washington Post, 2015) from Idol to Big Brother, they rake in millions of viewers every night and have a significant impact on popular culture. These shows present a concentrated, edited and scandalised version of everyday life, wrapped in the guise of being true to the viewer, only more dramatic. Television has the ability to shape our view of the world and now with the ever pervasive aspects of social media, networks such as Bravo can imprint an everlasting impression of what we consider normal. However, even when know what we are watching is completely unreal, we accept it as ‘reality’ and accept the characters into our lives, until they become overthrown by a younger, prettier and more outrageous model. Geordie Shore is one such television show which presents an exaggerated, hyperbolic version of reality, with the cast members performing ridiculous, violent and carnal acts in front of a worldwide audience and being celebrated in the process.

    Polsk invasion på MTV: Efter Jersey Shore & Geordie Shore kommer Warsaw Shore Den populära franchisen som först började med Jersey Shore och som följdes av Geordie Shore i England, Gandia Shore i Spanien & The Valleys i UK fortsätter nu med en polsk version: Warsaw Shore. Programmet, som hade premiär i höstas, slog tittarekord på MTV i Polen och kommer nu att visas även i Sverige med start på måndag den 13 januari. Ikväll ger MTV svenska folket en inblick i polskt festande och svärande genom premiären av Warsaw Shore. Serien sätter Warszawa på partykartan och följer fyra tjejer och fyra killar som flyttar ifrån sina familjehem för att börja ett helt nytt liv i huvudstaden och bo tillsammans i ett hus fullt av kameror. Tras haber emitido la versión anglosajona, «Geordie Shore», MTV graba, «Gandía Shore», adaptación que ya ha comenzado con un altercado. Es demandada por una supuesta embestida. Este tipo de programas «sólo promueven actitudes sexistas, violentas y denigrantes”. Los adolescentes que visionan este tipo de programas suelen tomar actitudes muy agresivas. El medio televisivo camina hacia el mal gusto, la vulgaridad, la ordinariez y la mediocridad. La violencia, el sexo, el morbo por la vida privada, la falta de los más elementales valores morales, éticos o sociales. Todo ello fundamentado con un objetivo; la búsqueda cada vez más radicalizada de la rentabilidad. A la cadena sólo le importa la audiencia. Y no tiene en cuenta que el fin nunca justifica los medios.

    MTV’s ‘The Challenge: Vendettas’ Reveals New Cast Members 12.07.2017 MTV revealed the new players who will join The Challenge: Vendettas when the show returns for season 31 on January 2. Stars from MTV's U.K. series Ex on the Beach and Geordie Shore, along with contestants from Big Brother will join The Challenge cast, which includes familiar faces such as Johnny Bananas" Devenanzio and Cara Maria Sorbello, as they travel to Spain "to pursue their personal vendettas against one another." This season, each of the 28 players are out solely for themselves, not their team, with only one winner competing for a final prize that may exceed $500,000. The winners of each challenge will receive money for their individual bank accounts, but once players are eliminated, their money is added to the final prize pot. In a twist, "grenades" will be awarded to players surviving grueling elimination rounds, giving them a chance to get back at anyone else in the house they may have a vendetta against, MTV says. With everyone out for themselves, players will be able to shake up the drama, doubt and deception with tactics such as stealing an entire bank account from another player, forcing players to be shackled together during another challenge or selecting players to stay up the entire night before a challenge. The Challenge: Vendettas was created for MTV by Bunim/Murray Productions. Gil Goldschein, Julie Pizzi, Scott Freeman and Justin Booth serve as executive producers, and Jack Reifert and Danny Wascou serve as co-executive producers.
