By-catch data were also collected for seven ungulate species: Barking Deer Muntacus muntjak, Bearded Pig Sus barbatus, Wild Boar Sus scrofa, Greater Mousedeer Tragulus napu, Lesser Mousedeer Tragulus kanchil, Malayan Tapir Tapirus indicus and Sambar Deer Rusa unicolor. Of these, Bayesian single-season occupancy analysis suggested that Barking Deer were the most widespread and Mousedeer spp. the least widespread during the study period. Bearded Pig, Malayan Tapir and Wild Boar were recorded in more than half of the camera trap area (Sambar Deer was excluded due to small sample size). Daily actvity paterns based on independent captures in 2015 suggest that Barking Deer, Bearded Pig and Wild Boar are mostly diurnal, mousedeer species are crepuscular and Malayan Tapir strongly nocturnal. Box 138, Wolaita Sodo, Ethiopia Abstract Close proximity between humans and large predators results in high levels of conflict. The aim of this study was investigating the extent and factors leading to human carnivore conflict through key informant interview, focus group discussions, questionnaires and field observation in all villages around sodo community managed forest, Southern Ethiopia. Totally, 310 household samples were identified for questionnaire in eight purposefully selected villages. Livestock losses from 2005 to 2007 (n = 745) were reported to be mainly caused by spotted hyena Crocuta crocuta (174 animals), leopard (151 animals), baboon Papio anubis (79 animals), African wild dog canis aureus (42 animals) and caracal felis caracal (65 animals). These predators mainly predated sheep (34 %) and goats (20 %) and cattle (25%) and donkey (4 %). Spotted hyena being the main predators of sheep (25.69 %) and goat (14.62 %). Both anubis baboon and African wild dog were majorly depredate sheep (10.67 %).

The animal experienced appetite loss, mild diarrhea, polydipsia, and difficulty breathing, and was curled up and staggering on its hind legs 2 days before death. Large calculi were found obstructing both sides of the renal pelvis. The left- side calculus was larger than that of the right side. These calculi had rough surfaces and were 15 × 21 mm and 9 × 14 mm, respectively. The bladder was filled with dark, cloudy urine. Multiple ulcerous lesions were found in the inner layer of the bladder. Enterococcus faecalis and Proteus mirabili were identified via microbiological examination of the urine. Under microscopic examination, urine struvites were observed in the pyuria sediment in the bladder. To our knowledge, this is the first documented case of nephrolithiasis in a captive snow leopard. Recognising the interconnectedness between people and ecosystems, WCT uses a 360° approach to conservation by placing equal emphasis on both forest and wildlife conservation and community development. We work closely with forest departments across the country to fortify on-ground protection by training and equipping frontline forest staff. Through partnerships with NGOs, the Trust is attempting to strengthen public education systems, provide alternative livelihood options to rural youth and make healthcare accessible to people living in and around India’s forests.
