MOSTLY WREN & ROMANS Friday 27 March 2020 We have organised a morning visit to four of Christopher Wren’s beautiful City Churches guided by Blue Badge Guide Tim Kidd. We begin our tour with coffee at St Mary Aldermary, then continue to St Mary le Bow (pictured), St Mary Abchurch and finally St Stephen Walbrook. For the afternoon we have tickets for the recently-opened Temple of Mithras (the Mithraeum), beneath the Bloomberg Space, Walbrook. *TRAVEL: 9.19am Train Sevenoaks to Charing Cross 9.19am arr. 9.56 (concessions available on this train), then District or circle line underground to Mansion House. * This is the suggested route, if you decide on an alternative please inform the organiser and make sure you arrive at Mansion House by 10.30. 10.30am Meet our Guide in the excellent cafe at St Mary Aldermary Church (right by Mansion House station) to have coffee and start our visit. After looking round the church we continue to our next venue St Mary le Bow (almost next door), followed by St Mary Abchurch, and finally St Stephen Walbrook. The churches are all within easy walking distance but you will be mostly on your feet for two hours (although the churches have seating). St Stephen’s has a regular, free organ recital from 12.30-1.30pm to which those interested are welcome. 1pm: Lunch at your choice one of the many cafes and restaurants in the neighbourhood. 2pm prompt: Meet in the foyer of the Mithraeum (opposite St Stephen’s church). Cost: £11 to include services of the guide for the morning tour and donations to the churches. Refreshments are the responsibility of individual members.
