Morning arrival at Shannon Airport. After clearing customs we’re met by our Irish Driver/Guide. We hit breakfast, then continue to Galway, an DAY 2 ancient, artsy college town home to many artists, writers, and musicians. Galway MON, OCT. 9TH is the unofficial art capital of Ireland. On the way to our hotel we’ll stop at the beautiful Galway Cathedral (it’s pretty incredible). We’ll have the night to explore and catch some amazing live Irish music, and we’ll spend the night downtown at the Imperial Hotel Galway. Aran Islands (optional). After a full (free) Irish Breakfast, enjoy an optional tour of The Aran Islands. Inis Mór is the largest of the three Aran Islands, boasting DAY 3 about 900 inhabitants. There are minibuses as well as horses and carts to show TUES, OCT. 10TH people around. We return to Galway in the afternoon for another night on the town. There’s world-class live music in Galway’s pubs every single night! Those not taking the Aran Islands tour will have a free day in Galway. We’ll finish the night once again at the Imperial Hotel Galway. Galway- Cliffs of Moher- Killarney. Today after breakfast we’ll visit Ireland’s stony place - the Burren (Bhoireann). It’s home to rare alpine plants, gentians, orchids and maidenhair ferns. The Burren contains dozens of megalithic tombs, Celtic crosses and a ruined Cistercian Abbey dating from the 12th century. You can find villages abandoned since famine times and green roads on which you can DAY 4 walk for miles without ever seeing a car. Next we’ll head to the breathtaking Cliffs WED, OCT. 11TH of Moher. The cliffs, a spectacular natural phenomenon, rise 660 feet above the Atlantic. From the top of the Cliffs you can see the Aran Islands, as well as The Twelve Pins and the Maum Turk Mountains to the north in Connemara. As we leave the cliffs we’ll travel through the village of Liscannor, and we finish up the day in Killarney. Group Dinner & Overnight Killarney International Hotel. Killarney- Dingle- Killarney. After breakfast we depart Killarney for the Dingle Peninsula. The drive to Dingle boasts some of the most magnificent scenery in all of Ireland. The fishing boats in the Dingle harbor and tiny brightly painted pubs DAY 5 are straight out of a postcard. The town has a population of only 1500 (served by THURS, OCT. 12TH 52 pubs!), and the native seafood chowder with freshly baked brown breadis worth the wait. We continue on to Slea Head. Along the way, we’ll see bee hive style huts, originally inhabited by 12th century monks, which overlook the rugged Blasket Islands. Overnight Killarney International Hotel. This is one of Ireland's most spectacular landmarks. The large Cathedral, ancient round tower and Cormac's Chapel, perched on a dramatic outcrop of rock, witnessed many of DAY 6 the pivotal events of Irish History. St. Patrick converted the local King Aenghus FRI, OCT. 13TH here in the 5th century, and Brian Boru was crowned Hig King of Ireland on this spot in the early 11th Century. We continue to the medieval city of Kilkenny, where we enjoy an optional visit to Kilkenny Castle. From here we head to Lyrath Estates. This beautiful 5-Star escape, which lies on 170 acres of parkland on the edge of Kilkenny City, boasts all kinds of fantastic modern luxuries within a beautiful Georgian mansion. Tuesday, June 26 Welcome to Ireland and Dublin We arrive early morning at Dublin Airport to be welcomed by our tour guide, USIT escort, and coach driver. We board luxury touring coaches for transfer to Dublin city. This morning we enjoy a sightseeing tour of Dublin, Ireland’s capital city, steeped in history and buzzing with youthful energy. Medieval, Georgian and Modern styles of architec- ture provide a backdrop to this friendly, bustling port built on the River Liffey. We continue along the Quays by the River Liffey to Phoenix Park. The Phoenix Park, with its 1752 acres, is a historic landscape of international importance and one of the largest de- signed landscapes in any European city. It was originally established as a Royal deer park in the 17th century, and if you are lucky, you might catch a glimpse of the herd. Passing Áras an Uachtaráin (The President’s House), we learn that it had a colorful history before becoming the Official Resi- dence of the President of Ireland since 1938. Early afternoon check-in is provided at our Dublin city centre hotel with some time for personal shopping and sightseeing in the city centre area. At 8:00 PM we enjoy a 3-course dinner served in our hotel (choice of starter/main/dessert).
