Personal Remembrances of 2008 He Year’S Biggest Stories Received Tonya Campos and Tatiana Their Due in the Opening Pages of Tthis Publication
Better As A MemoryPersonal Remembrances Of 2008 he year’s biggest stories received Tonya Campos and Tatiana their due in the opening pages of Tthis publication. As in previous years, however, Country Aircheck has made a point of seeking and accepting the personal stories and remembrances that provide a different yet equally relevant perspective on the year that was. Enjoy. Tonya Campos KKGO/Los Angeles “When Compassion International approached me about going to Nicaragua and doing an on-air tie-in, I said yes in a split-second. We planned my trip to take place before our on-air promotion. Our goal was to get 300 children sponsored, which entails $32 a month, and ensures the child receives one hot meal a day and pays for school uniforms, pencils, paper, etc. It was the best thing I’ve ever done. It was a life-changing experience. I broke down at my first glimpse of poverty and they told me that was normal. It’s a shock if you’ve never seen it. “After a day of playing with about 150 children, this little girl came and tugged at my sleeve. She said, ‘I want you to have this,’ and handed me her purse. I had told her earlier how beautiful it was, but I didn’t want to take it from her. She told me to take it because she had another one. I lost it. She represented all those children who have nothing, and here she was giving me something to take home. It’s with me all the time as a reminder. -

Cover design by Bob McGrath CAJUN RECORDS 1946-1989 – A DISCOGRAPHY © Nick Leigh 2017, 2018 INTRODUCTION TO EDITION 3 I began collecting blues records in 1959 but it was another 7 years before I heard Cleveland Crochet & the Sugar Bees on the Storyville anthology “Louisiana Blues”. My appetite whetted, I wanted more. Buying the Iry Le Jeune LPs on Goldband a few months later (not one but two volumes – and purchased as imports on a student’s allowance!) fuelled an appreciation of Cajun music that has remained undiminished. In the mid 1960s, however, there was little information available about the great music I was listening to, other than the catalogues I obtained from Goldband and Swallow, and the early articles by Mike Leadbitter and John Broven in “Blues Unlimited” and “Jazz Journal”. Thanks to people like Mike, John, Neil Slaven, Rob Ford and Les Fancourt there is now a lot of information available to provide the background to blues and rhythm & blues recordings. However much of the information about the post World War 2 music of South Louisiana in general and the French (Cajun) recordings in particular, remains elusive So far as I know no single ‘discography’ of post-war Cajun record releases has been published and I thought I would try to correct this oversight. This is notwithstanding the increasing amount of well researched material about the music in general and individual artists. Therefore I take only limited credit for the information included herein about the recordings. My aim has been to bring that material together in a single document. -
Local Punks Start a Movement
Local Punks Start a Movement Peter & the Test Tube Babies Local punks have joined forces to create a monthly event, called PVD Punk Night, with the first installment coming March 31 at PVD Social Club. Former Hell owner John ‘Cyco’ DiFruscio, Drunk Robb, Brass ‘N’ Ammo, Done Right, and American Pride among others are off to an awesome start. This will be the type of night that punk rock dreams are made of. The 1980’s punk legends, Peter and The Test Tube Babies are on their first US tour in more than 10 years, which includes a stop at the PVD Social Club. Peter and The Test Tube Babies are known for blistering punk rock anthem like “Intensive Care,” “Run Like Hell,” and my personal favorite, “Banned From The Pubs.” I remember getting a punk compilation mixed tape with no song names in high school and “Banned From The Pubs” was the first song and just listening to that song and hitting rewind over and over. I didn’t actually find out until an embarrassing amount of years later that it was Peter and The Test Tube Babies and not The Exploited. Hey, there was no internet back then. Sometimes it is hit or miss when the punk rock titans of the past come to town but Peter and The Test Tube Babies have enjoyed a solid reputation on the European festival circuit and look to be a sure bet. If that wasn’t enough throw in a second headliner in NYC hardcore legends, Murphy’s Law, and you got the punk rock show of the spring, possibly the year. -

The first photo in the online post features Gomez and Raisa holding hands, lying side-by-side in hospital gowns. Most of us have two kidneys, which are bean-shaped organs in the body that filter and remove waste from our blood. A healthy person with two kidneys may choose to donate one, as it is possible to live a long and healthy life with just one kidney. "She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me," Gomez said of her extremely generous friend. "I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis." Another photo in the series reveals a large red scar running across part of Gomez's stomach. Lupus Attacks Healthy Body Parts Gomez said she needed a transplant as a result of having Lupus. A serious disease that affects the immune system, Lupus can cause damage to many organs, including the kidneys, heart and brain. -

A Conversation with Pat Mclaughlin by Frank Goodman
A Conversation with Pat McLaughlin by Frank Goodman (Puremusic.com, 1/2004) Musical legends don’t come easy to the living in Nashville, too many people hoping to weave one. Naturally, the ones who actually do are busy chasing down a song, a groove, a story or a melody. (Not to mention chasing down a living, or a spouse and kids.) In the course of that chase, all kinds of careers are survived, escaped, enjoyed, and endured. Last month we ranted about an R&B prince, a too well-kept secret, and chose to follow that up this month with a conversation with him. Pat McLaughlin is someone I might say hi to in a club but with whom I’d not yet had a significant exchange. He’s kind of a private person, and endearingly self-deprecating, which in itself is a nice change of pace in Music City. (Conversations where people want to enumerate all the good things that are happening for them are one of the earmarks of the new-to-town, or the slow learners.) He invited me to his home outside town a ways, and then out to his clubhouse where he goes to write most every day. It was also there that in the late-90s he rehearsed Tiny Town, an under the radar kinda supergroup. (He’d probably find that term a little embarrassing, but all the same…) The clubhouse was rustic fab, out in the woods on his land. Shure Vocalmaster PA in the corners and a set of drums, couple of amps and tape decks. -
Benjamin Randall: Founder of the Free Will Baptists
ABSTRACT The Awakening of the Freewill Baptists: Benjamin Randall and the Founding of an American Religious Tradition Scott E. Bryant, Ph.D. Chairperson: William H. Brackney, Ph.D. The last decades of the eighteenth century brought numerous changes to the citizens of colonial New England. As the colonists were joining together in their fight for independence from England, a collection of like-minded believers in Southern New Hampshire forged an identity as a new religious tradition. Benjamin Randall (1749- 1808), a principal founder of the Freewill Baptist movement in colonial New England, was one of the many eighteenth century colonists that enjoyed a conversion experience as a result of the revival ministry of George Whitefield. Randall’s conversion included a direct revelation from God that communicated God’s universal love and grace for all people. As a result of his conversion he began evaluating the spiritual condition of his fellow parishioners and he was disappointed that his peers did not share his newfound zeal for spiritual matters. His spiritual zeal prompted him to examine the scriptures on his own and he questioned the practice of infant baptism. Randall completed his separation from the Congregational church of his youth when he contacted a Baptist congregation and submitted himself for baptism. When Randall was introduced to the universal love and universal grace, was at odds with Calvin’s doctrine of election that was affirmed by the other Baptists. Randall’s spiritual journey continued as he began to preach revival services throughout the region. His ministry was well received and he established a new congregation in New Durham, New Hampshire, in 1780. -

In Messiah in Messiah
The Chosen People Volume XII, Issue 8 September 2006 ForFor ivenessiveness in gg Messiah on the High Holy Days INSIDE Messiah’s Solution to the Dilemma of Forgiveness • Testimonies • THIS ISSUE: The Promise of Forgiveness • David–Music Therapist to the King Dear friend of the Jewish people, Shalom from the Chosen People Ministries headquarters in New York Messiah’s City. I wish you could join me here— especially in Brooklyn where I live— to see the way the Jewish community prepares for the High Holy Day season, which begins on the evening Solution of September 23. You would be amazed! There is a growing sense of to the holy anticipation in the air. Families are finishing their shopping, buying new clothes and getting ready for family visits, sometimes with relatives arriving from around the world. Rabbis have been preparing services and synagogues, making sure all facilities are in the best condition. of Forgiveness The High Holy Day season, which includes Rosh Hashanah (the New Year), Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement) and Sukkot (the Feast of Booths), is undoubtedly the holiest and most important time of the Jewish year. Even the most irreligious Jewish people will probably find themselves in synagogue sometime in the next few weeks. The High Holy Days and the Bible Beginning in verse 23 of chapter 23 of Leviticus, the three festivals observed in the seventh month are listed; Rosh Hashanah in verse 23, Yom Kippur in verses 26-32 and Sukkot in the remainder of the chapter, verses 33-43. Each one of the festivals points us to an event in the past that God wanted to memorialize for the Jewish people.Yet each festival not only points to historical events, but also foreshadows greater events in the future.
