Solva marginata (Meigen, 1820) is the most common and frequent representative of Solvidae fam ily in the Central European Region. Bevezetés A család fajait korábban a Stratiomyidae családba sorolták (MAJER 1976, 1985). A részletes vizsgálódások eredményeként (WEBB 1984, KRIVOSHEINA, 1972, 1988, ROZKOSNY 1973) az ide tartozó legyeket, a lényeges anatómiai el térésekre alapozva önálló családdá nyilvánították. így a Stratiomyidae és a Xyloyidae családok együtt a Stratiomyioidea öregcsaládot alkotják. A csalá dokból jelenleg csak egy fajt, a Solva marginata (Meigen, 1820) sikerült orszá gunkban megtalálni. Ez a faj mindenütt gyakori, ahol avarral borított terüle tek (beleértve a parkokat is) vannak. A faj palaearktikus eltérj edésű. A nyári szezonban gyakran megtaláljuk az épületek ablakain is. A kozmopolita faj So mogy megye valamennyi településén nagy valószínűséggel megtalálható. Az előfordulási adatok jelentős része Tóth Sándor eddig még meg nem jelent adatok Somogy megye kétszárnyú (Diptera) faunájához" kéziratából (a szerző volt szíves a dolgozatát nagyvonalúan rendelkezésemre bocsátani) továbbá a Ter mészettudományi Múzeum (Budapest) valamint Majer József légygyűjtemé nye a szerző által határozott, de még eddig nem publikált adataiból származ nak. McFadden ^ The Stratiomyidae or soldier flies are represented in America north of Mexico by approximately 237 species distributed through 37 genera. Prior to this study, larvae have been described for only 21 species representmg 15 genera. In addition to the lack of adequate descriptions and keys, classification has seldom been attempted and a phylogenetic treatment of the larvae has never been presented. The present study has been undertaken with several goals in mind: to rear and describe (1) as many species as possible; (2) to redescribe all previously described larvae of North American species; and (3), on the basis of larval characters, to attempt to define various taxo- nomic units and show phylogenetic relationships withm the family and between it and other closely related familes. Any attempt to establish subfamilial and generic lunits must be regarded as tentative. This is especially true in the present study since larvae of so many species of Stratiomyidae remain unknown. Undoubtably, as more species are reared, changes mil have to be made in keys and definitions of taxa. The keys have been prepared chiefly for identification of last mstar larvae. Wierzbięcice 4A/21, 61 - 568 Poznań e-mail: [email protected] ABSTRACT. In the Polish fauna occur only two species of Xylomyidae family, which are considered to be saproxylic insects. In this paper Xylomya maculata (MEIGEN, 1804) is recorded for the first time from Wielkopolska-Kujawy Lowland and new localities of Solva marginata (MEIGEN, 1820) are presented. Larvae and pupae of these two species were reared in glass containers filled half with substrate of decaying organic debris taken from places where they were collected. During rearing of Xylomya maculata larvae feeding on dead insects were observed. W publikacjach z ostatniego okresu znajduje się niewiele doniesień o występowaniu Xylomya maculata (MEIGEN, 1804) i Solva marginata (MEIGEN, 1820) na terenie naszego kraju (DOBOSZ 1994; DOMINIAK 2012; HEBDA 2010; KLASA & PALACZYK 2014; KLASA et AL. 2000; SOSZYŃSKI et AL. 2010; TROJAN 1974; TRZCIŃSKI 2007). Xylomya maculata związana jest z starymi lasami liściastymi i mieszanymi pochodzenia naturalnego i uznawana jest za relikt lasów pierwotnych, ale można spotkać ją również w alejach oraz w parkach ze starymi drzewami. -

Complete list of recorded species 27 Introduction The greater part of the area known as Bainton Heath has developed on tipped fly ash. The very free-draining ground which results is unusual for the Peterborough area, and developed a characteristic flora which, because of difficult growing conditions and rabbit pressure, was subject to very slow successional change. By 2011, however, the effects of succession have become very visible and a cause for concern. Very open conditions, with bare ground and a wide mix of low-growing herbs were formerly extensive, but are now restricted to relatively small pockets of high rabbit activity. A large area is occupied by floristically poor grassland dominated by wood small-reed Calamagrostis epigeios, and scrub, dominated by hawthorn, bramble and rose, is widespread and in places dense, especially towards the edges of the tip. Invertebrate survey was commissioned by the Langdyke Trust in 2011 to inform management of the site. The 2011 survey area includes only the northern part of the former fly-ash tip, but extends into peripheral habitats. A strip of land along the northern side contains plantation woodland, two pools, and scrub and rough grassland on “native” substrate, and there are planted trees – especially conifers – along the bank which forms the edge of the tip to the east. -

Slez. Muz. Opava (A), 60: 223-233. Abstract: A pyramidal trap with combined bait is described and illustrated. The trap inserted above sapping stump of European walnut (Juglans regia) in a site in Central Bohemia near Uhlířské Janovice in 2010 yielded a rich spectrum of flies (Diptera). Records of 24 species most interesting from the faunistic, biological and nature conservancy point of view are given with comments upon their distribution and biology but a number of other captured species are also mentioned. Besides species developing in or attracted as adults to sap runs [e.g. Syrphidae: Ceriana conopsoides (Linnaeus, 1758), Aulacigastridae: three Aulacigaster spp., various Drosophilidae], other important components were formed by saproxylic [Xylomyidae: Solva marginata (Meigen, 1820), some Stratiomyidae, many Lonchaeidae, Milichiidae: Milichia ludens (Wahlberg, 1847), some Muscidae], mycophagous (some Asteiidae, Sphaeroceridae, Drosophilidae), necrophagous (some Sepsidae, Acartophtalmidae, Milichiidae, Sphaeroceridae) and saprophagous (some Sepsidae, Carnidae, Milichiidae, Sphaeroceridae) species, both latter attracted to meat-bait used in the trap. Aulacigaster falcata Papp, 1998 is the first record from Bohemia. LEICESTERSHIRE ENTOMOLOGICAL SOCIETY The status of Diptera in VC55 Families with up to 10 species Ray Morris [email protected] LESOPS 40 (August 2021) ISSN 0957 - 1019 LESOPS 40 (2021): Small families 2 Introduction A preliminary assessment of the status of flies (Diptera) in Leicestershire & Rutland (VC55) was produced in 2019 (Morris, 2019). Summaries of the number of species in families known to be in VC55 at that time were presented with the intention that fuller status assessments would be made in due course. The known records of flies to the end of 2020 are now being collated, checked, validated and plotted in order to produce a sequence of status reports as part of the Leicestershire Entomological Society Occasional Publication Series (LESOPS). Reviews of the Conopidae and Tephritidae have already appeared (Morris, 2021a, b) and are now followed by consideration of records from the fly families with a maximum of 10 species (Table 1). Corresponding author: [email protected] Abstract The Pachygastrinae are a large, globally distributed subfamily of soldier flies (Diptera, Stratiomyidae). Despite being widespread, they have poor representation in museum collections and are mostly known from larvae collected under the bark of fallen logs. All seven Canadian genera and nine of the eleven Canadian species are herein reviewed and keyed. An updated checklist to the Canadian species is presented. Twenty-one new provincial records are reported, and four species are recorded from Canada for the first time: Cosmariomyia pallidipennis (Williston), Gowdeyana punctifera (Malloch), Neopachygaster vitrea Hull and Pachygaster pulchra Loew. This increases the known fauna in Canada from seven to 11 species. At least, one can guess the probable identity of larvae from the habitat in which they were found. Thus, in calcareous seepages one would expect to find dives, pardalina and pygmaea, along muddy water margins it would be trilineata, and in wet meadows most likely rara. However, Andy Godfrey has been sampling calcareous streams in Lincolnshire and Oxfordshire using the usual river biologist's method of kick-sampling in riffles. Here he has found morrisii. The larvae of this species have been found in a range of habitats such as marshes and stream margins. This is the first record of the larvae being found within the body of the stream. This was not a single chance event because several larvae were found at more than one site. Although the separation of the larvae of morrisii and pardalina is not good using present characters, there is little doubt that morrisii is the species involved.
