et me begin by making this clear: I'm no Julia L Roberts fan. In fact, I've never even seen Pretty Woman, the film that made her toothy grin famous. I have, however, seen Roberts smirk and charm her way through a half a dozen or so terrible films. That being said, I went into her latest star vehicle, Erin Brockovich, expecting little but a numb feeling of having been cheated out of two hours of my life. Based on a true story, Erin Brockovich is the story of a down-on-her-luck former beauty queen and mother of three who finagles her way into working for a lawyer. Ed Masry (four time Academy Award-nominee Albert Finney) is given little choice but to hire Erin after she publicly demands compensation for his having lost her traffic-injury lawsuit.
