AMBITIOUS DRAGON Photo: HKJC New Zealand Breeding Industry’s 4th Highest Earner of All Time Ambitious Dragon’s superb hands and heels win under Zac Purton in last Sunday’s Gr.1 Longines Hong Kong Mile not only made the Pins 6YO gelding the toast of Hong Kong, but it elevated his place to the 4th highest NZ-Bred stakes earner of all time also. Headed by Sunline – who incidentally also won the Gr.1 Hong Kong Mile, Ambitious Dragon is proudly endorsed in 4th spot with a tally of NZ$8,583,273 in earnings (see Arion Pedigrees Ltd table below). Happily we have witnessed another fantastic year for ACCLAMATION’s progeny on the track with 17 Black Type performers including Group 1 Prix de l’Abbaye winner MARSHA and Dual Group 2 winning 2-Y-O MEHMAS. LIMATO has again proved a great advertisement for TAGULA in 2016, when competing at the highest level. He was successful in Group 1 July Cup and Group 1 Prix de la Foret and we look forward to even more successes for him in 2017. As we write the first crop foals by the Group 2 Winning and Dual Group 1 placed 2-Y-O MOOHAAJIM and the Dual Group 1 Winning Miler, XTENSION, are being prepared for the sales ring and we are confident that you will be impressed by their excellent quality and confirmation.     Trainers Profile Asami, Hidekazu Cup – Sungrazer Age: 67. Hidekazu Asami is the son of Kuniichi Asami, a former champion jockey and trainer in Japan. Asami worked at his father’s stable from 1973 and he obtained his trainer’s licence in 1991. His first G1 win came seven years later when Mejiro Bright took the Tenno Sho Spring in 1998. Yamanin Sucre (2003 Hanshin Juvenile Fillies), 2006 Hong Kong Vase fourth Song Of Wind (2006 Kikuka Sho), Reginetta (2008 Oka Sho) and Rainbow Line (2018 Tenno Sho Spring) brought further top-class successes to his stables. He has amassed a total of 583 JRA wins in his career, including 29 of them this year (as of 19 November). Hong Kong wins: 0 Balding, Andrew Mile – Beat The Bank Age: 45. Andrew Balding is the son of legendary English trainer Ian, who prepared Mill Reef, one of the greatest European horses of the last century. He was an amateur rider and assisted his father for four years. He took over at Kingsclere Stables in January, 2003 and won his first Classic that June, the Oaks with Casual Look. Phoenix Reach notched an international G1 treble in the 2004 Canadian International, 2004 Hong Kong Vase and the 2005 Dubai Sheema Classic. His next G1 came eight and a half years later with Side Glance in the 2013 Mackinnon Stakes at Flemington, Australia and in 2017 he won two G1s – the Sussex Stakes (Here Comes When) and the E P Taylor Stakes (Blond Me). He has had his best ever season in 2018 with 122 wins and over £2.57 million in the bank in Britain alone.

    Welcome to the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Races 2008 – The Turf World Championships. This year’s CXHKIR will welcome its largest ever number of global racing stars to Sha Tin on Sunday, 14 December. Four G1 races, worth a combined HK$62m (approx. US$8m) in stakes, have invited a record 37 international runners to join 18 of the very best from Hong Kong. Sixteen individual G1 winners are present from 11 racing jurisdictions overall. In the FORM GUIDE of each race, the PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS table provides you with a bird-eye's view of the race. This at-a-glance guide gives you a full form summary of the horses in a simple and concise table. Another handy tool is the INTERNATIONAL RATINGS CHART. In weight-for-age races like the Cathay Pacific HKIR, generally speaking, the higher a horse's rating, which is based on racing performance, the better its chance to win. A preliminary SPEED CHART has been included to assist in identifying likely positions in running.
