Ambitious Dragon AMBITIOUS DRAGON Photo: HKJC New Zealand Breeding Industry’s 4th Highest Earner of All Time Ambitious Dragon’s superb hands and heels win under Zac Purton in last Sunday’s Gr.1 Longines Hong Kong Mile not only made the Pins 6YO gelding the toast of Hong Kong, but it elevated his place to the 4th highest NZ-Bred stakes earner of all time also. Headed by Sunline – who incidentally also won the Gr.1 Hong Kong Mile, Ambitious Dragon is proudly endorsed in 4th spot with a tally of NZ$8,583,273 in earnings (see Arion Pedigrees Ltd table below). ANOTHER STAR COLT FOR O’REILLY Another exciting black-type colt was unearthed for O'Reilly last weekend when Mosse flew home from last to take the Gr.3 Concorde Hcp (1200m) at Ellerslie. The John Bell-trained and part-owned galloper was having his first start at black-type level and with the jaw dropping win, took his record to a perfect five from five Bred by Marriott Trust, Mosse is set to make his next appearance in the Gr. 1 Railway Stakes on New Year’s Day.     Trainers Profile Asami, Hidekazu Cup – Sungrazer Age: 67. Hidekazu Asami is the son of Kuniichi Asami, a former champion jockey and trainer in Japan. Asami worked at his father’s stable from 1973 and he obtained his trainer’s licence in 1991. His first G1 win came seven years later when Mejiro Bright took the Tenno Sho Spring in 1998. Yamanin Sucre (2003 Hanshin Juvenile Fillies), 2006 Hong Kong Vase fourth Song Of Wind (2006 Kikuka Sho), Reginetta (2008 Oka Sho) and Rainbow Line (2018 Tenno Sho Spring) brought further top-class successes to his stables. He has amassed a total of 583 JRA wins in his career, including 29 of them this year (as of 19 November). Hong Kong wins: 0 Balding, Andrew Mile – Beat The Bank Age: 45. Andrew Balding is the son of legendary English trainer Ian, who prepared Mill Reef, one of the greatest European horses of the last century. He was an amateur rider and assisted his father for four years. He took over at Kingsclere Stables in January, 2003 and won his first Classic that June, the Oaks with Casual Look. Phoenix Reach notched an international G1 treble in the 2004 Canadian International, 2004 Hong Kong Vase and the 2005 Dubai Sheema Classic.
