(16 Starters) Overseas Expert Column by Naohiro Goda Both LUCKY NINE and GREEN BIRDIE ran as well as I expected in the G2 Centaur Stakes at Hanshin on 11 September. Both came out of the race well and moved from Hanshin to Nakayama Racecourse on 14 September. It was an uneventful trip even though it took nine hours and five minutes by horse van, and they have settled very well in the barn area at Nakayama Racecourse. LUCKY NINE, second in the Centaur Stakes, and GREEN BIRDIE, who was demoted from 4th in the same race to 14th in the stewards’ room, were lightly breezed for 800m on the grass course at Nakayama on 23 September. They were given another breeze on the same course on 27 September. Both Hong Kong raiders look to be happy and are enjoying their time in Japan, and I believe they are ready to produce their best form on 2 October. -

Your Key to Success Welcome to Rathbarry & Glenview Studs 2017
STALLIONS 2017 STALLIONS 2017 Your Key to Success Welcome to Rathbarry & Glenview Studs 2017 Dear Breeders, The nature of the bloodstock industry is that each and every year brings fresh challenges as well STALLIONS 2017 as new achievements and 2016 has been no different. The main concern is that there has been increased catalogue sizes to cater for a larger foal crop of 2015, so the necessity for breeders to focus on quality and value is more important than ever. Happily we have witnessed another fantastic year for ACCLAMATION’s progeny on the track with 17 Black Type performers including Group 1 Prix de l’Abbaye winner MARSHA and Dual Group 2 winning 2-Y-O MEHMAS. LIMATO has again proved a great advertisement for TAGULA in 2016, when competing at the highest level. He was successful in Group 1 July Cup and Group 1 Prix de la Foret and we look forward to even more successes for him in 2017. As we write the first crop foals by the Group 2 Winning and Dual Group 1 placed 2-Y-O MOOHAAJIM and the Dual Group 1 Winning Miler, XTENSION, are being prepared for the sales ring and we are confident that you will be impressed by their excellent quality and confirmation. In 2017 we are proud to introduce two new stallions which will offer breeders a great variety of choice to our existing roster - AJAYA, the Group 2 Gimcrack Stakes Winning 2-Y-O by Leading Sire Invincible Spirit from an established stallion producing female line and KODI BEAR, the Group 2 Winner of 4 Stakes Races from 7-8 furlongs, by Multiple Stakes Producing sire Kodiac. -

Race History Record Dividends
FWD Champions Mile (Group 1) – 1600m – Turf – Right-handed Course Race History The FWD Champions Mile is the only one of Hong Kong’s 12 Group 1 contests to have been established after the turn of the millennium. That first edition came in 2001 and carried a purse of HK$4.6 million. The race was initially a HKG1 contest, designed as a finale for Hong Kong’s star milers, and it was the Brian Kan-trained Red Pepper that scored under Eric Legrix. International runners were first welcomed in 2005 when the prize money rose to HK$8 million. In a classic clash of the titans, Bullish Luck edged his great stablemate Silent Witness. That result ended the latter’s unbeaten streak that had stretched through 17 races. Bullish Luck became the first two-time winner when he followed-up in 2006. The Champions Mile attained international G1 status in 2007 and Able One took the spoils, the first of eight wins for the race’s most successful trainer John Moore. The Moore-trained galloper triumphed again in 2010, by which time the race was worth HK$12 million (increased in 2009). Moore rattled off six more wins with Xtension (2011 & 2012), Dan Excel (2013), the great champion Able Friend (2015) and two-time Horse of the Year Beauty Generation (2018 & 2019). The Caspar Fownes-trained Southern Legend denied Beauty Generation a record three-peat in this race last year, with his rider Vincent Ho also notching a first career G1. The race’s total prize money was increased to the current level of HK$20 million in 2020.
