Maiorova Kazan Federal University, Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communication named after Leo Tolstoy, Tatarstan Str.2, Kazan, Tatarstan, Russia Abstract The movement on restoration of the temples destroyed in Soviet period has begun from below, later local authorities became involved and, at last, the state program on restoration of temples has been adopted. There is a process of returning to the roots, to traditions: not only Orthodox churches, but also Catholic, Buddhist, as well as mosques are being restored. Each temple embodies religious idea in the architecture. Each architectural element comprises a certain symbol. The symbolics in architecture of an Orthodox church is difficult and many- sided. It expresses what directly cannot be represented - it is the terrestrial embodiment of the heavenly, spiritual, non hand-made, sacral. Unlike Catholic temples built according to the art style dominating during construction the Orthodox churches are built according to Orthodoxy symbolics. Thus, each element of an Orthodox church bears some information on the one the temple is devoted to, on some lines of the Orthodoxy and on many other aspects. The architecture as any other art form, has its own language - it is the language of architectural forms. -

Romanov News Новости Романовых By Ludmila & Paul Kulikovsky №132 March 2019 The monument to the Royal Martyrs at the St. Seraphim Cathedral in Vyatka "For the first time in 100 years, a descendant of the Romanovs appeared in Vyatka" From 17 to 20 of March the great-great-grandson of Alexander III, the great-grandson of Grand Duchess Olga Alexandrovna - the sister of Emperor Nicholas II - Paul E. Kulikovsky and his wife Ludmila visited Vyatka. They were invited by the regional public organization "Revival of Vyatka". Paul E. Kulikovsky - "Kirov, or Vyatka as we prefer to call the city, was one of the places on our "to-visit-list", as we want to visit all the places in Russia directly related to the Romanovs, and especially those in which the Romanovs were in exile after the revolution. That is why first of all were visited Romanov related locations and city landmarks. But for the local citizens the main event was a presentation of the book of memoirs of Grand Duchess Olga Alexandrovna “25 Chapters of my life”, followed by a press- conference. City history The city is actually called Kirov - in honour of one of the Stalin co- workers – Sergei Kirov killed in 1934 – but many citizens still use the historical name Vyatka. It was established in 1174. From 1457 to 1780 it was called Khlynov, from 1780 to 1934 Vyatka, and now Kirov. It is the administrative centre of the Kirov region and located on the Vyatka River, 896 km northeast of Moscow. Population is about 507,155 (2018). -

Northern Saints Trails The Way of Love Durham to Hartlepool Introduction This guide describes the pilgrimage route between Durham Cathedral and St Hilda’s Church in Hartlepool. All the Northern Saints Trails use the same waymark shown on the left. The total distance is 45.5 kilometres or 28 miles. The route is divided into four sections of between 9 and 15 kilometres. The sections are in reverse order from 4 to 1 as they were originally allocated from east to west. Points of interest are described in red. One of the reasons that this route is called The Way of Love is that pilgrimage, particularly in the Middle Ages, was viewed as an act of devotion. One of the most famous pilgrimages to Durham was that of King Canute about a thousand years ago. He is recorded as walking barefoot from near the Trimdons to Durham. The church in Kelloe is dedicated to St Helen who was one of the initiators of pilgrimages to the Holy Land. Two other churches at Hart and Trimdon are dedicated to St Mary Magdalene who was known for her great devotion to Christ. St Hilda of Hartlepool was also known for her great devotion to God. Adding the fact that the cathedral is dedicated not just to St Cuthbert, but also to the Blessed Virgin Mary, we can say that this route has a distinctly feminine flavour! If you had been walking this route in the Middle Ages, and you encountered someone carrying a cross walking to Hartlepool, he would most likely be a fugitive. -

It is not just a copy of the theological training that is offered in seminaries. Rather, it is a broad theological and religious--cultural education at academic level that is made available for both sexes and for all ages. The new education was initiated through both public and private initiatives as well as by the churches themselves, the Russian Orthodox Church and the Catholic Church. In this study I shall survey the eleven most important Orthodox and Catholic' theological educational institutes in Russia, Belarus' and Ukraine: six in Moscow, two in St Petersburg and one each in Minsk, L'viv and Kiev, describing their origin and comparing their study programmes. Romanov News Новости Романовых By Ludmila & Paul Kulikovsky №117 December 2017 Detail on a door in the Russian Orthodox Church of Saint Elizabeth in Wiesbaden, Germany The conference and exhibition "Hessian Princesses in Russian History" in Frankfurt On December 19, in Frankfurt-am-Main, Germany, the scientific and educational conference "Hessian Princesses in Russian History" arranged by the Russian Ministry of culture and the Elizabeth-Sergei Enlightenment Society, was opened. The conference was held in the "Knights hall" of the "German order" - commonly known as the "Teutonic Knights" - the full name being "The Order of Brothers of the German House of Saint Mary in Jerusalem". It is a Catholic religious order founded as a military order c. 1190 in Acre, Kingdom of Jerusalem. More than 50 Russian and German historians, archivists, and cultural figures attended the conference. Among them were: Alla Manilova, Deputy Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation; Anna Gromova, Chairman of the Elizabeth-Sergei Enlightenment Society"; Karl Weber, Director of the Office of State Palaces and Parks of the Land of Hesse; Sergey Mironenko, Scientific director of the State Archives of the Russian Federation; Elena Kalnitskaya, General director of Museum "Peterhof", and Ludmila and Paul Kulikovsky. The relations between the Hessen and Russian Imperial houses started in the reign of Empress Catherine the Great. In 1773 she invited the Hessian Princess, Wilhelmina Louisa of Hesse-Darmstadt, to St. Petersburg. On 29 September the same year Princess Wilhelmina married Empress Catherine the Great's son, the Tsarevich Paul Petrovich - the later Emperor Paul I. In Russia she was named Grand Duchess Natalia Alexeevna. -
