Neighbourhood Policing Monthly Newsletter

The West Reading Neighbourhood Team have been busy throughout November and December with many issues, ranging from Anti-social Behaviour to firearm offences. During November and December the West Reading NHPT have been working hard to deal with various issues throughout Southcote and . These issues have included criminal damage, drug related crimes and high levels of anti-social behaviour. This is being carried out alongside the team’s daily activities and working closely with our partner agencies to ensure that we are reaching those that are vulnerable or at risk from being victims of crime. During November and the end of October, the team worked closely with other NHPT’s throughout Reading and partner agencies to deter groups of young people away from committing high levels of anti-social behaviour and crimes relating to the use of fireworks. This operation was anticipated in light of offences that were committed around the same time of year in 2017. Due to the vigilance of all officers involved this was an extremely successful operation, with arrests being made and offenders being apprehended and others involved being disrupted from committing crime. The team have identified a number of persons who are actively causing anti-social related crimes, we have devised a number of operations that will be ongoing for the foreseeable future in order to address the needs of the community and to ensure their safety. We have increased our patrols and presence in the areas, challenging any suspicious activities/persons and submitting intelligence reports where required. We have a proactive team of PCSO’s that frequently conduct high visibility patrols in the areas, speaking to residents and community members about these issues. Burglaries are becoming an issue throughout West Reading. The team have prioritised this by placing a strong emphasis on crime prevention advice. By using social media and Have Your Say meetings we continuously try to state the importance of crime prevention and the measures that can be taken to deter burglars from targeting your property. Reading CID are doing a fantastic job in putting these burglars in prison. In recent weeks, the Police have been informed of a number of properties in both Southcote and Tilehurst that have been tagged with white marks. The team have been conducting high visibility patrols, conducting door knocks to identified streets and surrounding areas, to offer reassurance and crime prevention advice/packs. This is an ongoing issue which the team is taking very seriously and strive to deal with any identified offenders robustly. If you see any member of the team please do not hesitate to approach us and inform us of any issues. We have two well attended Safer Neighbourhood Forums (SNF’s) in Southcote and Tilehurst, where the members of the community can voice their opinions and concerns to our team in a safe environment. The issues presented to us are always taken on board and addressed in a manner of priority. One issue that is a priority to the residents of Dee and the surrounding areas is speeding up and down Dee Road. The team have taken this on board and conducted a speed enforcement operation on Sunday 9th December. A number of motorists were identified and will receive warning letters. However, we will be conducting this operation in the near future again to ensure that the issue is being addressed appropriately. The team wishes you all a Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year and remember to report any issues or concerns you may have over the festive period.
