Phillips House has not been equipped with handicapped accessible ramps, elevators, or chair lifts. Folding chairs can be provided for visitors who would like to use them during a tour. We are glad to offer guests a visual tour of the second floor of the museum from the comfort of our visitor center. Visitors with limited mobility may be able to enjoy a first floor tour of the house and grounds. Service animals are welcome. We encourage visitors with concerns to call ahead. Tours and performances last approximately 30-40 minutes and take place on multiple levels in our 17th- and 18th-century houses. Visitors are standing, walking, or climbing stairs during these experiences. Information is available about the rooms for those that cannot access any portion of the tour.

Wheelchair-accessible bathrooms are located throughout the museum. Private family bathrooms are available on the first floor. You are welcome to borrow wheelchairs (standard and wide), strollers and rollators from the coatroom (available on a first-come, first-served basis). Accessible parking is available in the paid garage on New Liberty Street, across from the Visitor Center. The New Liberty Street and Charter Street entrances are available for wheelchair drop-offs. All street-level doors can be operated with a push button.

A Braille informational brochure and audio stop sheet for Yin Yu Tang, A Chinese House, and a Braille brochure about the museum's history are available at the information desk. Wheelchair seating and assistive listening devices are available for public programs in Morse Auditorium. Requests for an ASL interpreter should be made at least two weeks before your visit. Salem Maritime National Historic Site 160 Derby Street | 978-740-1650 All walkways at the Salem Maritime National Historic Site are wheelchair accessible. The first floors of the 1675 Narbonne House and 1762 Derby House can accommodate non-motorized wheelchairs up to 26 inches in width. If you are interested in visiting these historic structures, please contact the site at 978-740-1660 at least 3 days in advance. The Scale House exhibit, behind the U. S. Custom House, is fully accessible.

The Salem Visitor Center is fully accessible. Wheelchair seating is available at the front and back of the theater to facilitate viewing of the 27-minute long orientation film “Where Past is Present” on the history of Salem and Essex County. Accessible restrooms are located inside the Salem Regional Visitor Center at 2 New Liberty Street and behind the Orientation Center at 193 Derby Street.
