Effect of Tourism on Sustainable Rural Livelihoods (Case Study: Baraghan Village - Savojbolagh County) Jomehpour M. Associated professor in social and regional planning, Allameh TabaTabaii University Ahmadi Sh. M.A. in Tourism Management, Allameh Tabatabaii University Received: 21/11/2010 Accepted: 27/04/2011 Extended Abstract Introduction Tourism has recently been introduced and recognized as one of the strategies for rural development and poverty reduction especially in developing countries and been implemented and proved successful in some areas. Tourism development in rural areas is seen as an agent both for rural economic regeneration and as a way of contributing to cultural and environmental conservation. These researchers contend that tourism has many advantages over other economic sectors, making it an effective tool for poverty alleviation. These advantages include: providing opportunities for linkages with other local industries and livelihood activities, thus increasing the scope of local participation, being able to build upon a wide resource base especially on natural and cultural capital which are assets to the poor despite the few export and diversification options usually they access to, being labor intensiveArchive and small scale and opportunities to employ of women andSID addressing gender inequality. Given this comparative advantage, it is recommended that the poverty ـــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــ Responsible Author: Mahjom43 @ gmail.com

Received: 12 March 2017 Accepted: 5 October 2017 Abstract Purpose: The purpose of the present study is to investigate the environmental quality of rural tourism destinations in Ghalehroodkhan tourism area in Fooman County. Design/methodology/approach: This study was a descriptive-analytical one conducted via survey method. The population of the study included the tourists in the study area. As the total number of the population was not known, to determine the sample size, 380 questionnaires were distributed. Heckman test and factor analysis were used for data analysis. Findings: The results showed that the structural-performance factors, tourist attractions, and visual and environmental attractions were the factors that played an effective role in the environmental quality of rural tourism destinations. Factor analysis was used to assess the environmental quality of the rural tourism destinations of Ghalehroodkhan area. As a result of reduction of 47 variables, five factors were developed including leisure time, attractions, infrastructure, social and environmental factors, with the special values of 18.41, 17.26, 14.67, 11.83 and 9.78 respectively. Alborz ,pronounced [kæˈɾædʒ]) is a city in and the capital of Karaj County ﻛﺮج :Karaj (Persian Alborz Province, Iran. At the 2006 census, its population was 1,377,450, in 385,955 families, making it the fifth-largest city in Iran. It is situated 20 kilometres (12 mi) west of Tehran, at the foothills of the Alborz mountains. The city is surrounded by mountains which give it great landscapes. The history of Karaj dates back many centuries. The stone built Zoroastrian fire temple of Takht-e-Rostam from the Parthian era is a testament to this. The Soleimanieh palace (currently housing a college of Agriculture), the mausoleum of Shahzadeh Soleiman, Imamzadeh Rahman and Zeid Palang Abad-e-Eshtehard are other historical relics of the Karaj area. During the Pahlavi dynasty era, the Morvarid Palace was constructed in nearby Mehrshahr district, designed by the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation. Especially after the Islamic Revolution thousands of people started to migrate to this pleasant small town making it one of the biggest cities of Iran in less then 3 decades. Currently Karaj is the center of Alborz province located at west of Tehran. Alborz province itself is the youngest and smallest province of Iran. It is named after Alborz mountain range, which is located at the north of Iran. It also provides a great share of water supply of Tehran because of its rich resources such as rivers and springs. It is connected by freeway, railway to Tehran 40 km east and Qazvin 100 km northwest, and by commuter rail to Tehran subway system (Metro).
