DAVID LUCHINS NOVEMBER 7 Crisis in Israel: What can We Do? Dr. David Luchins has been Chairman of the Political Science Department of Touro College since 1978. He is a graduate of After davening (approx. 11:15am) at Yeshiva College, and earned his Ph.D. from the CUNY Graduate Young Israel of St. Louis Center in 1977. Dr. Luchins teaches courses in American Politics 8101 Delmar Boulevard, University City and International Relations and serves as Founding Dean of Touro’s Lander College for Women. Dr. Luchins served on the staff of United States Senator Daniel MOTZEI SHABBAT, Patrick Moynihan for twenty years as special assistant, senior assistant, and ultimately senior advisor to the senator. Prior to NOVEMBER 7 that, he served on the 1972 presidential campaign staff of Election 2016: What is Good for the Senator Hubert Humphrey and as a National Vice Chairperson of Democrats for Nixon. He is active in Jewish communal life, having Jews? served as vice-president of the Orthodox Union since 1976, and 8:00pm Melaveh Malkah at as a member of the Executive Committee of the Jewish Council for Public Affairs since 1984. An email asking for volunteers went out to the community, and by 5:30 p.m., young and old, secular and religious, people started streaming into the building. Like ants raiding a picnic, lines of people started carrying all the equipment, supplies and material that was on the bottom level of the JCC to higher ground. Pre-school parents who have only been at the JCC a short time worked side by side with members who have spent their entire lives in the building. By 10 p.m., everything that could be carried was in safer territory. e next morning, the sta nished the job, removing motors and pumps from the boiler room. At 11 a.m., State police and Dauphin County emergency workers informed us that we must evacuate the building. So we did and waited and prayed that the damage wouldn’t be as signicant as expected. Over Shabbat, all we could was to wait and see what would be the end result. A few pictures started surfacing showing the inside of the building under water. First thing Sunday morning, we were at the Center surveying the damage. It was signicant. We started pumping out the water, and by mid-afternoon it was basically out.
