Days 1-3 (Sunday-Tuesday) From the Marseille-Provence Airport, our first stop is lovely, historic Arles on the banks of the Rhône River. During our first three days we visit some of Arles’ renowned mon- uments, and also: the magnificent Pont-du-Gard, the world’s best-preserved Roman aqueduct; the exceedingly charming walled town of Uzès; the spectacular village of les Baux-de-Provence; delightful St. Rémy-de-Provence and its market; and the old asy- lum of St. Paul-de-Mausole, where van Gogh was a voluntary patient in 1888-89. One LUNCH, one DINNER. OVERNIGHT – ARLES Days 4-6 (Wednesday-Friday) From Arles we go north to the ecclesiastical city of Avignon, home of the Catholic popes during the 14th century. There’s lots to see, including the Palace of the Popes and the curiously truncated Pont d’Avignon. Later, after a stop in the famed wine vil- lage of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, we arrive at our hotel: the Burrhus, an art filled hostelry on the main square of Vaison-la-Romaine. In the next two days we visit: Vaison, three towns in one (Roman, medieval and modern); the Caverne du Pont d’Arc, a perfect replica of the Chauvet Cave, with its 30,000-year-old cave paintings; Orange, boasting a magnificent Roman theater; and two of the most beautiful perched villages of the region, Séguret and Gigondas (a fine red wine is made here). Two DINNERS. OVERNIGHT – VAISON-LA-ROMAINE Days 7-9 (Saturday-Monday) Departing Vaison, we arrive in the lively market town of Apt and take in its Saturday market before climbing to the picturesque uplands above. From here, it is easy to reach the top sights of the area: the village of Roussillon, an ochre marvel high on a cliff; Lacoste, whose ruined château broods above its stone streets; Bonnieux, looming high above the valley; the perched village of Gordes; the ancient Abbey of Sénanque; the fabled food and flea market at l’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, known throughout France for its extensive selection of antiques; and riverside Fontaine-de-. One LUNCH, one DINNER. OVERNIGHT – APT. Days 10-12 (Tuesday-Thursday) From Apt, we head for the Mediterranean coast and the pretty port of Cassis for a boat ride on the Mediterranean. Later we arrive at Aix-en-Provence, our home for the next three nights. While based in Aix, we enjoy: a walking tour of this beautiful town and its main street, the Cours Mirabeau; the old Cathedral of St. Sauveur and some of Aix’s many fountains; a museum that includes works by Paul Cézanne; and the impressive perched village of Ventabren. One LUNCH at la Table de Ventabren, an auberge with a spectacular view, and one DINNER. OVERNIGHT – AIX-EN-PROVENCE Getaway day (Friday) 7 Burgundy-Alsace They say Burgundy’s wines are the best in France. It’s a matter of opinion, and the winemakers of Alsace may beg to differ. Days 1-2 (Sunday-Monday) We begin our tour in stately old Lyon, France’s second city. From our centre ville hotel, we explore: Old Lyon, once center of France’s silk industry; Place Bellecour, one of Europe’s largest squares; the Textile Museum, Fine Arts Museum and Confluences Museum; and two of the city’s many churches, Cathedral St. Jean and the 19th cen- tury Notre Dame de Fourvière. One DINNER, one LUNCH. OVERNIGHT – LYON Days 3-4 (Tuesday-Wednesday) From Lyon we strike out north to the pretty hillside village of Solutré-Pouilly, which spreads at the base of the immense, soaring Solutré rock. Here the regional prehistory museum teaches us how ancient humans hunted and lived. Later we come to the his- toric town of Cluny, visiting its famed ruined abbey, the nearby religious community of Taizé and the Château of Cormatin. One DINNER. OVERNIGHT – CLUNY Days 5-7 (Thursday-Saturday) Moving north through the scenic hills, we come to the prettiest town in Burgundy, Beaune. Checking into our centrally located hotel, we walk the old streets and get a sense of life in this wine town. During our time here, we will explore: the Côte de Nuits, where some of France’s best red wines are made; the Côte de Beaune, source of its finest whites; the Hospice de Beaune; and the town’s Wine Museum. One LUNCH, one DINNER. OVERNIGHT – BEAUNE Days 8-10 (Sunday-Tuesday) Traveling east, we first stop in Dijon, ancient capital of Burgundy, with its picturesque streets and beautiful Palace of the (and Fine Arts Museum). Later we come to the ahead-of-its-time church of Notre Dame de Haut, designed in the 1950s by groundbreaking architect . At day’s end, we arrive in gorgeous Colmar, a half-timbered delight. From here we visit the charming wine villages of Riquewihr, Ribeauvillé and Kaysersburg. One LUNCH, one DINNER. OVERNIGHT – COLMAR Days 11-12 (Wednesday-Thursday) From Colmar we journey north, through vineyard and forest, to the mountaintop Château of Haut-Koenigsbourg, which features a splendid panorama of the Rhine Valley. After a pause in pretty Obernai, we come to magnificent Strasbourg, a vibrant, attractive city with ancient quarters of half-timbered houses and a cathedral boasting a famed Astronomical Clock. Here, we enjoy a stroll through the leafy Petite France neighborhood and a boat trip on the Ill River. One LUNCH, one DINNER. Days 1-2 (Sunday-Monday) From our Bordeaux Airport-area hotel, our first stop is the heart of the Bordeaux wine region, the Médoc. Here, near pretty Pauillac, we learn about this fabled wine zone with a visit to a top winery. Later we arrive in St. Emilion, a lovely stone village, where we explore the underground church and enjoy in the ruined cloister of a medieval church. Two LUNCHES. OVERNIGHT – ST. EMILION Days 3-5 (Tuesday-Thursday) Into northern Dordogne we head for the delightful, riverside town of Brantôme, with its abbey founded by in 769. Over the next three days we get to know Brantôme as well as: the nearby villages of St. Jean-de-Côle and Bourdeilles; the Celto- Roman city of Périgueux, boasting an enormous, curiously domed church; and the Château of Hautefort, so scenic that French moviemakers flock there. One Michelin- starred LUNCH, one DINNER. OVERNIGHT – BRANTOME Days 6-11 (Friday-Wednesday) We move to lovingly preserved Sarlat, whose center is said to contain the most perfect ensemble of renaissance buildings in Europe. Sarlat will delight you with its Saturday market, considered one of the best in France. It’s also the perfect excursion center for visits to: Domme, a hilltop village with the prettiest views in the Dordogne; the Château des Milandes, once owned by American jazz singer-dancer Josephine Baker; the riverside villages of la Roque Gageac and Beynac; and Rocamadour, a pilgrimage center from the middle ages up to today. We also visit: the village of Les Eyzies, lying in what the French call the “center of prehistory”; the National Museum of Prehistory, celebrating the discovery in 1868 of Cro-Magnon man; Lascaux IV, a recently opened (winter 2016) exact reproduction of the paintings in the original Lascaux, considered the “Sistine Chapel” of prehistoric cave art; the curious cliff dwellings of Roque St. Christophe; and the cave of Rouffignac, where we take an electric train far underground to view cave art created by prehistoric humans. One DINNER, two LUNCHES, as well as a picnic with local products from the Saturday market in Sarlat. OVERNIGHT – SARLAT Day 12 (Thursday) As we leave Dordogne, we come to old Monpazier, a bastide (“new” town of the 13th century). Here we enjoy sightseeing and free time before moving on to a Michelin- starred LUNCH at the restaurant La Tour des Vents. Late in the day we arrive at our hotel at the Bordeaux Airport. OVERNIGHT – BORDEAUX AIRPORT Getaway day (Friday) It’s time to say au revoir to Dordogne with a morning flight home from Bordeaux.

Days 1-3 (Sunday-Tuesday) From our gathering point at a hotel near Toulouse Airport, we travel across country to a the fortress of Salses, which once guarded this border region. Later we arrive in sunny Pérpignan for free time. Then we come to the artist town of Collioure, the prettiest village on the southern French Mediterranean. From here we explore the coast and the spa area of the Pyrénées, including the Catalan village of Céret (with a fine art muse- um). Picasso and many other artists were inspired by this part of France. Two LUNCHES, one DINNER. OVERNIGHT – COLLIOURE Days 4-5 (Wednesday-Thursday) After visiting Collioure’s charming farmer’s market, we soon arrive at one of the most beautiful villages of France, Castelnou. After a picnic lunch and a peek at the adorable village, we come to Narbonne, once a Roman town, with a pretty center and a museum featuring Roman art. From Narbonne we visit the winery that produces the vermouth Noilly Prat, and delightful Pézenas. One LUNCH. OVER NIGHT – NARBONNE

Days 6-8 (Friday-Sunday) We go inland today, stopping at the ancient Abbey of Fontfroide for a visit, then wind- ing along the banks of the charming Canal du Midi. In the afternoon we arrive in mag- ical Carcassonne, where we stay in comfort just outside the old city walls. While in Carcassonne, we visit the old town’s atmospheric pedestrian streets, ancient church and château. You’ll long remember our walk atop the town walls. We also make a day trip to the wine town of Limoux, and to the beautiful village of Mirepoix. One LUNCH, one DINNER. OVERNIGHT – CARCASSONNE

Days 9-11 (Monday-Wednesday) We first pass through Castres, then arrive in Lautrec, officially classed as being among France’s most beautiful. Later we come to Albi, birthplace of the artist Toulouse- Lautrec, and tour the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum. We also visit Albi’s enormous, for- tified church – a reminder of the times when Albi and much of southern France rebelled against pope and king. In reprisal, this church was built to demonstrate the power of Catholicism. Finally, we make a day trip to the utterly charming, hilltop village of Cordes. One DINNER. OVERNIGHT – ALBI

Currency fluctuations: In case of significant fluctuation of the value of the U.S. dol- George Nevin lar vs. the euro, a currency surcharge may be added to the tour price. In this event, you will be notified prior to final payment. Intimate France considers this surcharge unlikely as it has been levied only two times in our 27-year history. 8. Baggage: Participants must be able to carry their own bags. Because van space is lim- ited, you are limited to one suitcase (no larger than 4,608 cubic inches, or 12 by 16 by 24 inches or equivalent) and one small (over-the-shoulder type) hand bag. Tour Director, in his/her discretion, may require a participant to leave excess bags in storage. 9. Physical Condition: You should be in good physical condition and prepared to climb hotel stairs and walk moderate distances. Some hotels do not have elevators. We require you to disclose to us any limitation (physical or otherwise) that may affect your participation. 10. Membership: To ensure congenial membership, Intimate France reserves the right to accept or reject any person as a tour participant and to expel from the tour any participant whose conduct is deemed incompatible with the interest of the tour group. 11. Travel Documents: It is the responsibility of each participant to obtain a valid pass- port. Visas are not required for U.S. citizens to enter France, Italy or Spain at this time. 12. Publicity: Photographs may be taken of tour participants and used by Intimate France for promotional purposes. 13. Insurance: Tour participants understand that to keep costs down, Intimate France has only limited liability insurance coverage to protect itself, the actions of its agents, or tour par- ticipants themselves, and participants willingly assume risks inherent in travel abroad. 14. Supplemental Travel Insurance: We strongly recommend optional, comprehen- sive travel insurance to cover baggage and non-refundable airfare and tour payments. Intimate France does not insure belongings of tour participants against theft or loss. 15. Booking, Deposit and Refunds: A deposit of $750 per traveler is due at time of booking. Balance due 90 days before departure date (or immediately upon booking if 15 booked within 90 days of departure). Refunds – All deposits ($750/person/tour) will be fully refundable until 90 days before tour departure. For final payment, the following reimbursement policy is in effect: TRAVEL BAN OR ADVISORY. All payments (deposits and final payments) will be fully refundable in the event one of the following happens: • United States authorities (or authorities in the home country of the traveler) put the European destination country or specific region of our Intimate France tour on a do-not- travel list, either mandatory or advisory, within 30 days of tour departure. • European authorities prohibit Americans (or residents of the traveler’s home country) from traveling for tourism purposes in the destination country or region including the period within 30 days of tour departure. CANCELLATION ABSENT A TRAVEL BAN OR ADVISORY. • Cancellation 90 days or more before departure, 100% refund of all payments. • Cancellation 60-89 days out, Intimate France retains deposit ($750/person/tour). • Cancellation 30-59 days out, Intimate France retains deposit plus 25% of final payment. • Cancellation 8-30 days out, Intimate France retains deposit plus 50% of final payment. • Cancellation 0-7 days out, Intimate France retains deposit plus 75% of final payment. Cancellations must be in writing and received by Intimate France within time periods shown above 16. Client Accounts: Expenditures made on your behalf by Intimate France will be noted and billed to you at the end of the tour. You agree to pay this bill within 30 days of receipt. 17. Release and hold harmless: I am (we are) aware that participating in an Intimate France tour,assumes substantial risks including, but not limited to, the hazards of traveling in Europe by bus, van or other means, as well as accidents, theft, illness, acts of war or terror- ism, and forces of nature. I (we) understand that Intimate France and its employees and agents (hereafter known collectively as Intimate France) have only minimal liability insurance to pro- tect themselves and me in the event of an automobile accident or other mishap. In consideration of Intimate France’s willingness to lead this tour for the price paid and on the terms and conditions agreed to; and my (our) right to participate in this tour for such price and on such terms and as part payment for such right to participate in the tour, I (we) agree that Intimate France shall not be liable to me or my (us or our) heirs or assigns, and I (we) hereby release them and hold them harmless from any such liability for accident, loss (including personal injury, death, or property damage), injury or damage to me or my (us or our) possessions caused by or in any way related to tour accommodations, food service, transportation, sightseeing or other services, defects in vehicles, breakdown in equipment, strikes, theft, delay, acts of war or terrorism, cancellation or changes in itinerary or schedules, or from any act or omission of Intimate France, even if negligent, unless such act or omission constitutes intentional, willful and wanton misconduct by Intimate France. I (we) have and do hereby assume all the above risks and will hold Intimate France harm- less, and indemnify them from any and all liability, actions, causes of action, debts, claims and demands of every kind and nature whatsoever that may arise from or in connection with this tour or my (our) participation in any tour activities. Any action that may arise under the terms of this agreement shall be decided in Alameda County Superior Court, California. This agreement will be construed under the laws of the State of California. It is also agreed in the event of any legal action, the prevailing party shall be entitled to reasonable attorney’s fees and costs. The conditions stated above and in the Release and Hold Harmless Agreement shall bind or benefit, as the case may be, the heirs, assigns, executors, and administrators of myself 16 (ourselves), and Intimate France.
