  • Millet Oppidum English
Château de Millet just situated outside the town of Eauze in the Gers. Devoted to mixed farming and the production of Armagnac, the estate today has 50 hectares of vines for the production of Côtes de Gascogne wines « Domaine de Millet ». The vines enjoy a north westernly position on the green hills of Eauze where the soil alternates between clay limestone and the sandy soils known as 'sables fauves'. Francis Dèche, the proprietor, who follows in the footsteps of five generations has a policy of quality : traditional grape varieties, vineyard cultivation with respect to the environment and constant development in the methods and means of vinification. With his daughter Laurence, who joined him in 1999, they sell a full and varied range that are just waiting to be discovered ! At Millet, the land and its relief tells a story of the history of man . The ruins of a pre-roman oppidum, the currencies and the amphoras discovered near to the vineyard are witnesses of the past. Before building the town of st Elusa in the 1 Century of this era, known today as Eauze, the Elusate people that lived here, learnt how to cultivate vines and appreciate wine from the Romans. OPPIDUM 2007 50% chardonnay, 50% sauvignon The vinification The two grape varieties are vinified separately then blended together and kept in tanks for 6 months. This wine is very original in style with a multitude of nuances that merge to give a surprising floral and spicy flavour . Tasting Notes -White mid dry wine, light in colour with golden yellow highlights -Intense and seductive bouquet with a concentration in floral notes, exotic fruits and soft spice.

  • League of the Public Weal, 1465
League of the Public Weal, 1465 It is not necessary to hope in order to undertake, nor to succeed in order to persevere. —Charles the Bold Dear Delegates, Welcome to WUMUNS 2018! My name is Josh Zucker, and I am excited to be your director for the League of the Public Weal. I am currently a junior studying Systems Engineering and Economics. I have always been interested in history (specifically ancient and medieval history) and politics, so Model UN has been a perfect fit for me. Throughout high school and college, I’ve developed a passion for exciting Model UN weekends, and I can’t wait to share one with you! Louis XI, known as the Universal Spider for his vast reach and ability to weave himself into all affairs, is one of my favorite historical figures. His continual conflicts with Charles the Bold of Burgundy and the rest of France’s nobles are some of the most interesting political struggles of the medieval world. Louis XI, through his tireless work, not only greatly transformed the monarchy but also greatly strengthened France as a kingdom and set it on its way to becoming the united nation we know today. This committee will transport you to France as it reinvents itself after the Hundred Years War. Louis XI, the current king of France, is doing everything in his power to reform and reinvigorate the French monarchy. Many view his reign as tyranny. You, the nobles of France, strive to keep the monarchy weak. For that purpose, you have formed the League of the Public Weal.

Tariquet, a Gascony success story - French Wine News Page 1 of 2 Tariquet, a Gascony success story FrenchWineNews | March 12th, 2012 Like Send Château de Tariquet, the veritable driving force behind Côtes de Gascogne wines, is celebrating its one-hundredth birthday this year, as well as the thirtieth birthday of its “Classic” cuvee, the Château’s emblematic white wine. Let’s take a look back through the remarkable history of the Grassa family. 1912, 1982, 2012. Three dates, three key moments in the history of a modest Gers estate that, over time, established itself as one of the most spectacular success stories in the South-West winemaking region. And it has been exactly one- hundred years since Château de Tariquet entered into the Artaud family – later becoming the Grassa family – and thirty years since the birth of the “Classic” cuvee, which symbolizes the estate’s commercial success. 2012 thus marks a double anniversary and a great one as well! But Château de Tariquet’s roots go even deeper: its vines have been producing Armagnac since at least the end of the 17th century. It was in 1912 that Pierre Artaud, a bear trainer from Ariège who made his fortune in the United States, bought Château de Tariquet in the Gers region of France. At the time, the estate only produced Armagnac. During the 1920s, his son, Jean-Pierre, who worked as a bartender in New York and was seriously injured during the war, returned to France permanently in order to allow the estate to remain within the family fold. In 1946, Hélène, Jean-Pierre Artaud’s daughter, married Pierre Grassa from the Béarn province, who distinguished himself in the Resistance during the German occupation.

As the kingdom of France consolidated and royal authority was extended, political power became centered in the person of the king and his bureaucratic advisers. One consequence was the decline or once powerful members of the feudal aristocracy and the queen. In the time of the early Capetians, the queen had been a true partner in power with the king, traveling with him and sharing the same household. But by 1500, she was excluded from power and participation in government, and her intimacy with the ld.ng was undermined by the formation of a separate household. By the thirteenth century the governmental functions of the queen were ceremonial, decorative, or sym bolic. Thus it was only under extraordinary circumstances that a queen could gain independent political power, and such was the fate of Isabeau of Bavaria. When she married Charles VI, ld.ng or France, in 1385, he was under a regency controlled by four dukes, but in three years Charles asserted his sole authority by releasing them.
