Earliest letter being when Langer was fourteen and written to his sister. 2. Business and Legal File--General letters with no political importance for the years, 1911- 1914. 3. Business and Legal File--General letters with no political importance for the period when Langer was States Attorney of Morton County, 1915. 4. Business and Legal File--General letters with no political importance for the period when Langer was States Attorney of Morton County, 1916. 5. Business-Legal File--Papers dealing with Langer's chairmanship of State Bar Association to prosecute non-qualified individuals from practicing law in the state. January 1, 1916 to March 31, 1916. 6. Business-Legal File, continued--Correspondence relating to Langer's chairmanship of state Bar Association. April 1, 1916 to December 31, 1916. 7. Legal Case--H.W. Smith vs. North Dakota Coast Mining and Milling Co., later vs. Mrs. Quale. November 12, 1913 to November 4, 1916. Good example of Langer's early law practice. 8. Legal Case--Papers dealing with Lignite Rate Case before 1916. 9. Other Legal Cases--General and mostly incomplete correspondence handled by Langer and his law office at Mandan, 1913-1917. 10. Political File--Early letters dealing with Langer's political ambitions and his election to States Attorney of Morton County. 11. Political File--Papers concerned with political matters relating to Langer, Morton County, and higher ambitions, 1915. 12. Political File--Same as above for the period January 1 to February 29, 1916. 13. Political File--More concrete plans for Langer's plans to obtain nomination as Attorney General for the state of North Dakota in the June primary, March 1 to April 30, 1916. 14. Political File--Same as above for the period May 1, 1916 to June 15, 1916. 15. Political File--Correspondence immediately before the primary and letters of congratulation following the primary. June 16, 1916 to July 4, 1916. 16. Political File--Letters of congratulation following the primary election. July 5, 1916 to July 31, 1916. 17. Political File.--Letters pertaining to the fall election and letters of congratulations. August 1 to December 31, 1916. 18. Miscellaneous Political File--For the year 1916. Miscellaneous, largely contains campaign materials such as advertisement and biographies of Langer as well as names of numerous political co-workers. 19. Miscellaneous File--Miscellaneous folder contains unrelated material which is either unreadable or incomplete. Also torn and damaged letters of little or no importance. Box 2 Folder 1. Legal Political File--Letters and reports dealing with action of Langer in regard to registering of births in Morton County, 1915-1916. 2. Legal Political File--Correspondence dealing with the problem of assessment of land. Langer's letters to all assessors in the state and their replies, along with Langer's acknowledgments. A rather unusual project for one states attorney to undertake. September 22 to October 22, 1915. 3. Legal Political File--Same correspondence as above. October 23 to October 31, 1915. 4. Continued--November 7 to November 8, 1915 5. Continued--November 9 to November 14, 1915. 6. Continued--November 15 to November 29, 1915. 7. Continued--December 1, 1915 to March 27, 1916. 8. Legal Political File--Correspondence dealing with good roads committee and petition for public scales. December 1915 to April, 1916. 9. Legal Political File--Correspondence dealing with subject of consolidated schools. February 1 to May 4, 1916. 10. Legal Political File--Correspondence between Langer and William Blake of State Humane Society in regard to the problem of young children, orphans, etc., 1914-1916. Mr. Blake seems to be a much-admired person by Langer. Killed in an automobile accident, July 25, 1917. 11. Legal Political File--This contains the bulk of Langer's correspondence while he was State's Attorney of Morton County. An extremely big operation. Most certainly had political overtones. Most remaining folders contain letters dealing with Langer's strong action against parents not sending their children to school, and against school boards for not providing the basic needs for teachers, pupils, and schools.
