So soon? Scientists made the discovery long ago that the Earth’s electromagnetic field has been steadily pulsating at increased frequencies year on year and that, therefore, time is indeed speeding up. Charles Ellison Headmaster 2 horizons LITTLE OWLS Little Owls started the New Year with an explosion of creativity with their colour topic. Each child designed their own tie-dye t-shirt and had the opportunity to create a masterpiece with spin art, bubbles and food colouring mixed with milk. There was much EGGcitement with the arrival of six duck eggs in nursery. Parents and children were able to log on and watch live hatchings via the ‘duck-cam’. Once they were all safely hatched we then had lots of fun teaching the ducklings to feed, drink, wash and swim. We had more animals arrive at Little Owls with a visit from Zoo Lab. The children were able to touch a giant land snail and a millipede and be brave and wave to a snake and a tarantula! For World Book Day the children were all invited to come dressed as their favourite fairy tale character, and as a follow-on from that the children have been creating their own fairy gardens, ingeniously made from milk cartons and lots of fairy dust. To celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday the staff from Little Owls all came dressed as Her Majesty and put on a tea party. The children all wore red, white and blue, with crowns which they had made, and they arrived via a red carpet rolled out for the occasion. The sun shone on our Graduation Party day and the children enjoyed donkey rides, a bouncy castle, a picnic lunch, ice-creams and a visit from Princess Belle and Spider-Man. All the children had been practising hard for Sports Day, and this paid off on the day – they all enjoyed hearing their families cheer them on. Mrs Jackie Hunter Head of Little Owls Pre-School 3 SPOTLIGHT ON INFANTS In spite of a miserable and foggy Friday in June, BJS Infants visited the Filey Lifeboat Station to listen to the coxswain talk about the important role of being an RNLI volunteer. The children saw both the inshore (ILB) and all weather (ALB) lifeboats as well as the two different tractors used to pull them to the sea. Children got to see the huge (ALB) Following the tour and a quick pit stop lifeboat up close, learning all about the at the RNLI shop; there was plenty of free different satellites, radios and the clothing time to explore the beach. Despite the that the volunteers wear; even having drizzle, spirits were high; children made the opportunity to try on some of the sand sculptures, played football and safety equipment! Frisbee, built sandcastles and enjoyed searching for seashells! We sought shelter There were also records of all the rescues to enjoy our packed lunches and of that have taken place since the RNLI Filey course left room for ice cream! – lifeboat station was founded over 200 Yummy! A good day was thoroughly years ago. enjoyed by all! INFANT FIESTA We celebrated the performing arts in June. In front of their families and friends, the Infant children sang songs in French and in English ranging from being silly, flies in showers, wasps and The Mad Moon! Mr Richardson knew exactly how to animate the children! It was also an opportunity to showcase progress made in the private lessons, too, such as LAMDA. Many children chose to recite poetry and play the piano, but we also heard from a flautist, and Sophie Pennock sang a song about a butterfly. Our after school recorder and dance clubs also had the opportunity to perform and show us what they had been practising. At Bramcote, we feel it is really important to celebrate children’s joy at discovering their new skills. As they progress through the school, the children will get used to performing in front of an audience. It’s so lovely to see confident, happy children enjoying their musicality.
