  • Lion Television Scotland's Contribution to the Consultation on the BBC's Plans to Launch a New Television Channel for Scotland in the Autumn of 2018
Please accept this email and the attached data protection release form as Lion Television Scotland's contribution to the consultation on the BBC's plans to launch a new television channel for Scotland in the autumn of 2018. Lion Television Scotland has produced hundreds of hours of content for all Broadcasters from our Glasgow base since the company launched in 1999. We produce BBC One flagship Daytime series Homes under the Hammer, employing a production team of more than 20 in our Glasgow office. In addition to that we are making the seventh series of the award winning Officially Amazing for CBBC and an arts documentary about the theft of two Van Gogh paintings for BBC Four. Other recent commissions include Daytime show Hoarder SOS for Channel 4, World of Weird also for Channel 4 and Time Commanders with Gregg Wallace for BBC Four. Any investment in Scotland's television industry is welcome and 30 million pounds for a new channel - 18 million in new money and 12 million from BBC Scotland from programmes currently on BBC Two - is a positive first step. And we note and appreciate this is the BBC's single largest investment in Scotland for twenty years - there is lots to be excited about. But to give the BBC and independent producers a fighting chance to deliver a quality service that audiences will want to watch that investment will have to increase over time. 100 million pounds is a figure that has been regularly quoted to launch a new service. The BBC said one of its aims in launching the new service was to improve the ratio between Licence Fee raised in Scotland and BBC spend in Scotland across all services.

  • The Nation Got a Sneak Peek Into the World of Spreadable Cheese Tubes Last Night (26 March) As Primula Cheese Was the Star of the Show on BBC’S Inside the Factory
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 27 March 2019 The nation got a sneak peek into the world of spreadable cheese tubes last night (26 March) as Primula Cheese was the star of the show on BBC’s Inside the Factory. Gregg Wallace, best-known for his role as a judge on MasterChef, and TV presenter Cherry Healey were given exclusive access to the cheese factory in Gateshead last summer, where 3,000 tonnes of spreadable cheese is produced every year. In scenes aired on BBC Two last night, viewers saw what happened when Gregg followed the production of Primula Cheese ‘n’ Jalapeños, from a 28,000-litre delivery of milk to 5,400 cheese tubes. Gregg chopped 344 kilos of cheddar and gouda to make the base for his cheese, before blending it with whey, water and jalapeños to keep it soft and spreadable. Meanwhile, Cherry Healey found out how bacteria are responsible for the huge variety in smell, taste and appearance of different types of cheese, as well as learnt the scientific rules for making perfect cheese on toast. Historian Ruth Goodman also featured in the show, looking at how cheddar became the predominant hard cheese choice of the world. Paul Lewney, Managing Director at Primula, said: “It was an absolute pleasure hosting Gregg, Cherry and the crew at Primula and I’m sure they had as much fun following our Primula Cheese ‘n’ Jalapeños production as we did. “We’re very excited about our new Flavour Burst range, which targets a younger audience and includes Paprika and Peri Peri, as well as Jalapeños, providing a great as an alternative to grated cheese.

  • Talent Tracking
ON SCREEN AND ON AIR TALENT AN ASSESSMENT OF THE BBC’S APPROACH AND IMPACT A REPORT FOR THE BBC TRUST APPENDIX II – TALENT TRACKING BY OLIVER & OHLBAUM ASSOCIATES APRIL 2008 1 APPENDIX II – TALENT TRACKING The objective was to find how the sources of the various network broadcasters’ talent differ, by genre and in some cases over time. Presenter loyalty to broadcasters would also be shown as a result of the ‘talent tracking’. A BARB database consisting of every strand aired on BBC1, BBC2, ITV1, C4 and Five in 2007 was used to select the relevant strands. Strands with less than 300 annual broadcast hours were not considered for analysis. Strands were chosen from genres that have a strong dependence on the quality and audience appeal of their presenter or lead performer. Hence the genres chosen were: • Entertainment, consisting of sub genres ‘Chat Shows’, ‘Quiz/Game Shows’, ‘Family Shows’ and ‘Panel Shows’ • Factual Documentary, consisting of sub genres ‘History’, ‘Human Interest’, ‘Natural History’, ‘Science/ Medical’ • Lifestyle, consisting of sub genres ‘Cooking’, ‘DIY’ and ‘Homes’ • Comedy, consisting of sub genres ‘Situation Comedy’ and ‘Other Comedy’ The talent analysis would then be taken form these selected strands. In the cases where talent appeared for the same channel on more than one strand, the talent was still only considered once for tracking analysis. If talent appeared on more than one channel, then their tracking would appear in all relevant channel profiles. Various different web-based sources were used to best map out the talent’s career. www.wikipedia.org and www.tv.com have career résumés on most of the selected talent; for a deeper and more comprehensive analysis, www.imdb.com and www.spotlight.com were used as reliable programme and talent databases.

  • Lockdown Newsletter 2
Lockdown Newsletter 2 A message from The Headteacher It’s been another busy week, both in school and via our remote learning. These weekly messages have the potential to be somewhat repetitive but we really do mean thank you for the efforts of students, parents and carers in making sure that this Lockdown is as positive an experience as possible. In school we are busy making plans for the different versions of what a return to school may look like. What we know is that the government have said they hope that schools will start to return from March 8th. This could be limited to specific age groups or phases of school but whatever happens we will be in a position to positively respond. Our in-school Lateral Flow testing is continuing and will be ready to scale up when a return to school is proposed. It is important at this point to thank all of the volunteers who contacted us and offered their services, we have been incredibly lucky to end up with a really strong team with skills and experience that complements our in-school testing staff. I have been dropping in (virtually) on all sorts of lessons this week. It is fair to say that they differ in style and method of delivery but it has been great to witness the levels of engagement from students as well as the variety of ways in which staff have tailored their approach to the new remote lessons. If your child hasn’t yet joined a live lesson please encourage them to give them a try.
