It will 4, also provide a more effective organizational structure, proven by the establishment of other SOMS squadrons within the Marines Corps," she said. The new squadron will consist of more than 800 Marines, sailors and civilians. It will fall under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Roger H. Gingrich, formerly the Station 'Operations Officer. Story by SSgt. Bob Torres Photos by MGySgt. G.E. Hijar The Marines, Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard joined together, May 18, at Naval Base Pearl Harbor and Hickam Air Force Base to celebrate Armed Forces Day. In keeping with the theme of this year's celebration, "Preserving the Peace," an Army parachute team and Marine reconnaissance team demonstrated their special skills as the public made their way through open displays of men and equipment. Visitors spent hours clambering over the A sniper/scout from the 1st Marine Brigade's STA platoon camouflages a visitor during the Armed Forces Day equipment displays, asking questions about each display at Hickam AFB. item and, in some cases, actually getting involved in 111 demonstrations. In addition to the displays of military equipment, the celebration was the site of a Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps drill competition. Musical entertainment was provided throughout the celebration by various island high school and civilian bands, as well as the FMFPac Band.
