Present Use: Vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Significance: The Charenton Bridge is significant as an important example of a distinctive truss type. The bridge’s significant design feature is its K-truss configuration, characterized by the arrangement of vertical and diagonal members to form a “K” in each truss panel. The K-truss is a rare variation both nationally and in Louisiana, where there are only three extant examples of the bridge type.2 The Charenton Bridge retains good integrity and clearly conveys the significant design features of the through K-truss.
