Michael Lovett was named the third head coach in Ball State soccer history this spring and he inherits a team that has won back-to-back Mid-American Conference regular season championships. Lovett guided the Cardinals to a 3-1-2 record on the spring season. The Cardinals only allowed one goal against in the spring under Lovett’s watchful eye with the goal coming at Big Ten power Illinois. Lovett, a native of Murray, Ky., returns to the Midwest with six years of experience as a Division I as- sistant coach. He spent the past two seasons in the Atlantic Coast Conference as an assistant coach at Vir- ginia Tech under head coach Kelly Cagle. He was primarily involved with the Hokies’ goalkeepers and helped Virginia Tech allow a single season school record low 20 goals against last sea- son. Prior to Virginia Tech, Lovett spent four years as an assistant coach at Murray State, including a six-month stint as the interim head coach. He guided the Racers to a 4-1 record in the spring season as interim head coach in which Murray State only allowed two goals in the five games. As an assistant coach, he helped the Racers to a 0.93 goals against average in 2005. He was instrumental in the recruitment of All-Ohio Valley Conference players during his tenure at Murray State and the OVC Freshman of the Year in 2005. Alexander joins the Cardinals after spending the past three seasons on the staff at Xavier University. She was responsible for all aspects of recruiting and compliance at Xavier in addition to assisting with academic integrity and success of the student-athletes. She also assisted in the organization of team practices, competition and daily operations. Alexander earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in kinesiology with a concentration in teaching/coaching from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2005. She played club soccer at UT-Arlington during her collegiate career. Alexander has a variety of coaching experience, including holding her USSF "D" Coaching License. She trained with Ohio Elite, the Warren County United and Mason/Thunder United. In Texas, she coached with the Black Magic Soccer Club, American Eagle Soccer Club and the Dallas Texans Soccer Club. Since the 1973-74 season, Ball State University student-athletes have garnered a total of 93 Academic All-America accolades. BSU’s student-athletes have collected 40 Academic All-America First Team honors, while earning 32 second team awards, 13 third team awards and six honorable mention awards. Two student-athletes - - Sally Northcroft (1999-2000) and Kate Endress (2004-05) - - have been honored as an Aca- demic All-American of the Year. The Cardinals’ 93 Academic All-America selections is ranked 23rd among all school’s in Academic All-America history.

Last year’s football team made an appearance in the International Bowl, which was the school’s first bowl berth since 1996, and capped off a 7-6 season, the best record for a Ball State team since the 1996 campaign. The baseball team won the 2006 Mid-American Conference Tournament and made its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 1969. Academically, Ball State student-athletes in all 19 of the school’s intercolle- giate athletic programs graded out better than the necessary 925 in the latest NCAA Division I Academic Progress Report, and 14 of the programs exceeded the national average for all NCAA Division I schools.
