PRESIDENT'S REPORT (Tony Trist) SACUSA Members, Firstly, I would like to present to our members my final annual report as President of SACUSA. I would like to thank all our members for their support during my two-year reign. I have enjoyed the experience and challenges over the past two years. This season has seen umpire training and development take a new “direction” with a new structure of umpire management “model” introduced by SACA. SACUSA and its members were fully supportive of this new “direction” with SACA becoming the first state to employ a full-time Umpire Coach, Nathan Magill. Additional initiatives that have also resulted from these changes, have been the introduction of a new online system for monitoring umpire performance, which along with additional coaching resources have seen umpire review and assessments reaching levels beyond expectations and the envy of other states. SACUSA hope with this new direction we will see improved quality in umpiring standards and more SA representation at higher levels and on Cricket Australia panels. Our Panel 1 & 2 umpires had mid-season performance reviews conducted for the first time in early January to support individual umpire development. A much higher training and development commitment for panel 1 & 2 umpires who have undertaken 17 training sessions this season, significantly more than previous seasons. Another feature has been additional training at Premier Clubs, a practice that we hope to extend more broadly across Premier Clubs next season. This season has also seen SACUSA’s scorer membership increase, as well as carrying out training and development for our scorers. We also launched our new logo. The new logo was designed with the assistance of SACA to bring a more modern appearance. The logo is sporting the ‘shield’ shape, similar to Cricket Australia and SACA. The new format is well-timed to reflect branding that aligns with the early 21st Century. This season saw the 60th Bradman Medal, which originated as an umpire-initiated award in 1957/58. In 1957/58, 30 umpires attended the first presentation night held at a hotel on Angas Street. In that year there were joint winners, just like this year. Neither of the winners was in attendance 1957/58, so, taxis were sent to their homes to bring them to the dinner to receive their award.

  • Junior Records 2020
JUNIOR RECORDS (correct as at 1/4/20) West Torrens Cricket Club - Junior Records The S.A.C.A. Junior grades began with an Under 16 Schoolboys competition in the January 1948 school holidays and later became an Under 17 competition (January 1968). It reverted to Under 16 for one season 2011-12 against the wishes of the majority of Clubs. This competition was known as the SACA Schoolboys competition from 1947-48 to 1973-74, Shell Shield from 1974-75 to 2003-04 and then became the Bank SA Shield in 2004-05. Originally the Carnival was conducted over 3 weeks in a round robin form with each team playing every other team – a series of 11 matches without finals. This was later reduced to a two week tournament with teams placed in two sets or zones and playing a series of 6 matches plus a cross zone final series. The Commonwealth Bank competitions began as single Under 16 and Under 14 grades in 1978-79 and expanded to Red and White divisions in each age group in 1988-89. The Club did not field any Under 14 teams in 1982-83. No Under 16 White team was fielded in 1991-92, 1992-93 and 1996-97 nor an Under 14 White team from 1994-95 to 1996-97. The home ground for the junior teams was at the University Playing Fields at West Beach until the end of 1984-85 with a short time at the Adelaide Airport Oval. A hard wicket was put down on Kings Reserve West and used from 1985-86 until the end of 1988-89.
