Apple Picks Up Israeli Neo-Noir Series 'Losing Alice' Rotem Yaron/Apple TV+ 'Losing Alice' Created, written and directed by Sigal Avin, the eight-part thriller stars Ayelet Zurer as an aging director who becomes obsessed with a younger screenwriter. Apple TV+ is expanding its slate of international original series. The streamer has picked up exclusive international rights to Israeli neo-noir series Losing Alice and signed a co- production deal with Israel's Dori Media and cable company HOT. Created, written and directed Sigal Avin, Losing Alice stars Ayelet Zurer (Man of Steel, Daredevil) as Alice, a 48 year-old film director who feels increasingly irrelevant but is inspired once more after becoming obsessed with Sophie, a 24 year- old femme fatale screenwriter played by Lihi Kornowski. Building on the Faust legend, but through the unique prism of a female filmmaker, Losing Alice explores issues such as jealousy, guilt, fear of aging as well as the complex relationships women have among themselves and each other. The first eight-part season of Losing Alice will air on Apple TV+ worldwide later this year and is currently airing on HOT in Israel. Losing Alice joins an ever-growing list of international Apple Originals and is the second high profile Israeli series snapped up by the streamer. Brockdish Conservation Area Character Appraisal Introduction The historic village of Brockdish is situated along the north side of the floodplain of the River Waveney. A predominantly linear settlement, the centre of the village is at the crossroads along the old Harleston to Diss Road, with Syleham Road leading south to the bridging point at Syleham Mills and Grove Road leading north. The settlement lies 2 ½ miles W.S.W of Harleston, and 5 East of Diss, and is one of a string of similar settlements on the north side of the Waveney between Beccles and Diss. The construction of the new A143 in 1996 to the north, which now bypasses the village, has significantly reduced traffic flow and has once again made Brockdish a quiet rural village. Perhaps partly due to the difficulty of building on land around the village because of the floodplain to the south and rising land on the north side, the bulk of C20 development has been built in a separate detached part of the settlement to the west. The new settlement area is closer to the parish church of St Peter and St Paul, which is a mile west of the historic settlement.

  • World War 2 Trail
WW2 Trail During World War 2 the Waveney Valley was home to a number of US Servicemen, who made up the ‘Friendly Invasion’. The invaders were thousands of young Americans, part of the United States Army Air Force’s vast contribution 1 to the Allies’ strategic bombing offensive being waged against Nazi-occupied Europe. There were up to 50,000 US personnel stationed here and in 3 2 the surrounding area at any one time. By 1944, Norfolk echoed to the roar of B24 Liberators and B17 Flying Fortresses as huge aerial armadas took to the skies from a countryside so freckled with bomber bases that it became known as ‘Little America’. Learn more about our rich wartime heritage in this WW2 Trail. 1 Seething Control Tower Seething Control Tower Museum is a restored World War II air traffic control tower, located at Seething Airfield in South Norfolk, England. • Apple Boards Israeli Drama Series 'Losing Alice'
Apple Boards Israeli Drama Series ‘Losing Alice’ By Joe Otterson Dori Media Apple is adding another international co-production to its streaming repertoire. The streamer has boarded the Israeli psychological thriller series “Losing Alice.” The show is produced by Israel’s Dori Media Productions in association with HOT. The eight-episode series is currently airing on HOT and will stream worldwide later this year on Apple TV Plus. The series hails from creator Sigal Avin, who served as director in addition to writing. It follows Alice (Ayelet Zurer), a 48 year old film director who feels irrelevant since raising her family. After a brief encounter on the train, she becomes obsessed with 24 year old screenwriter, femme-fatale, Sophie (Lihi Kornowski), and eventually surrenders her moral integrity in order to achieve power, relevance and success. The series uses flashbacks and flash-forwards to take viewers through the conscious and subconscious parts of Alice’s mind. This is the second Israeli co-production deal Apple has announced in recent weeks. Earlier this month, Apple announced it would co-produce the thriller series “Tehran,” about a female Mossad agent who goes deep undercover on a dangerous mission in the titular Iranian capital. The streamer is also currently working on “Suspicion” starring Uma Thurman, which is based on the Israeli series “False Flag.” Other international shows include “Pachinko,” based on the Min Jin Lee novel of the same name, “Shantaram” starring Charlie Hunnam and based on the Gregory David Robert novel of the same name, “Slow Horses” starring Gary Oldman,” and “Masters of the Air” from Amblin Television and Playtone.

  • USAAF AIRFIELDS Guide and Map Introduction
USAAF AIRFIELDS Guide and Map Introduction During the Second World War, the East of England became home to hundreds of US airmen. They began arriving in 1942, with many existing RAF (Royal Air Force) airfields made available to the USAAF (United States Army Air Force). By 1943 there were over 100,000 US airmen based in Britain. The largest concentration was in the East of England, where most of the 8th Air Force and some of the 9th were located on near a hundred bases. The 8th Air Force was the largest air striking force ever committed to battle, with the first units arriving in May 1942. The 9th Air Force was re-formed in England in October 1943 - it was the operator of the most formidable troop-carrying force ever assembled. Their arrival had an immediate impact on the East Anglian scene. This was the 'friendly invasion' - a time of jitterbugging dances and big band sounds, while the British got their first taste of peanut butter, chewing gum and Coke. Famous US bandleader Glenn Miller was based in the Bedford area (Bedfordshire), along with his orchestra during the Second World War. Close associations with residents of the region produced long lasting friendships, sometimes even marriage. At The Eagle pub in Cambridge (Cambridgeshire), and The Swan Hotel at Lavenham (Suffolk), airmen left their signatures on the ceiling/walls. The aircraft of the USAAF were the B-17 Flying Fortress and B-24 Liberator - used by the Bombardment Groups (BG); and the P-51 Mustang, P-38 Lightning and P-47 Thunderbolt - used by the Fighter Groups (FG).

  • The Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul, Brockdish
The Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul, Brockdish. SOME LANDMARKS IN THE HISTORY OF THE CHURCH Our church is not a large church, nor particularly grand. It was renewed and restored in Victorian times and has sometimes been the object of sniffy architectural snobbery by 20th century writers who preferred older, medieval churches. Or it was ignored completely by authors singing the splendours of a county overflowing with glorious churches. Possibly this is because our church has always been off the beaten track, standing remote from the main village down a country lane. But it is the oldest building in the village, at least nine hundred years old and has a wealth of interesting details from across the centuries. The medieval church was restored and renovated in Gothic revival style in the mid-19th century by the remarkable Rector, Reverend George France, whose ambitious commitment to beautify the building leaves a legacy now much prized by experts in Victorian architecture and decoration. The Parish Church of Saint Peter and St Paul, Brockdish, Norfolk Adherence to the formal worship of Christianity has waxed and waned over the centuries and from the time of the Reformation in the mid-16th century, the people of Norfolk have been divided in their attachment to the established church. What we see today is a building that reflects the changes in religious observance and faith but is still a fundamental part of 1 our village identity, even when there aren’t often many people in it! The parish church belongs to all of us, including those who stop by out of curiosity and we hope this little guide will illustrate how a small medieval church became a splendid Victorian one.
