A breeder of a non-state sired runner will receive 25 percent for all maiden races through third place and 20 percent in all other races in Pennsylvania. The potential is there to earn money even when the horse is no longer owned by the breeder, as long as the runner races in the state. Owners also reap rewards, up to 40 percent, in all non-restricted races, paid through third place. PA- Sired PA-Breds can earn up to 25 percent extra in all PA-Bred Stakes races. In 2018, the total for Owner Bonuses will amount to over $5 million paid out on top of the purse! Stallion owners also benefit with 10 percent of the purse share earned for their stallion’s registered PA-Bred, PA-Sired runners in the state. Total Fund payments can exceed six figures a year for Pennsylvania stallion farm owners. A not-for-profit organization, the PHBA represents and serves the dues-paying members in every aspect of Pennsylvania’s Thoroughbred breeding industry.
