Our Athletes and Coaches This year our membership included 71 athletes (younger JD to Masters). Our athletes performed admirably this year with many personal bests, provincial award winners, and excellent performances in championship meets. Details can be found elsewhere in the Annual. When you review the accomplishments of many of our athletes, you should consider the influence of our dedicated coaching team. Our thanks to Erin Bell , Dawn Copping , Caroline Hay , Rob Leone , Darcie Montgomery , Cindy O’Krane , Elena Voloshin , Ashley Weber, and Michael Adair. Since our last AGM, Frank Reynolds , our long standing middle distance coach, passed away. A tribute to him has been posted on the NorWesters web site. We ran the inaugural Frank Reynolds Cross- Country Meet on October 13 th . We have also established a scholarship fund for NorWester athletes in Frank’s name. Ashley Weber took over Frank’s duties coaching the Juvenile – Senior distance group from January through August, but has since moved on to new endeavors. Cindy O’Krane and Darcie Montgomery have now taken on these coaching duties. Meets We put on two well-run and well-attended meets (NorWesters Elementaries Meet in May and the first annual Frank Reynolds Memorial Cross-Country Meet in October). A great deal of volunteer work went into these meets and many of our parents and athletes put in several days of work over the two competitive seasons. The Elementaries Meet drew over 700 young athletes. The Frank Reynolds Meet had 250 registrants. We cancelled the 2007 Trevor Craven Memorial Track meet because we lost our venue, Swangard Stadium. We hope to bring back this meet in 2008. The Board Board service is an important support for of our club’s functioning. Bill Bryden served as Treasurer this past year and has agreed to serve another year in this role. Dawn Copping continues on the Board as the coaching liaison and as meet director when available. Dawn Strong has served as Club Registrar and will continue this task through May 2008 when she will be stepping down. These are all positions of substantial responsibility and time involvement. Elizabeth Hardy, Marcela Hernandez, Steve O’Neill, and Glenn Rajala have all contributed their time, energy and wisdom to our discussions. Social Events This year, approximately 60 NorWesters athletes, parents, and coaches took over a large section of Earl’s restaurant in Kelowna during the Jack Brow Memorial Meet. We had much to celebrate because of our athletes’ performances and made new friends. This is the third year of this gathering. We also had our end of track season barbecue in John Lawson Park in West Vancouver. This was attended by a large percentage of our membership and all appeared to have a good time. Our awards banquet was held on December 2 nd . Bill Koch ED-1 Page 5 of 67 NorWesters ANNUAL TRACK AND FIELD CLUB 2007 2007 AWARDS 0a. • Standard Tables 2020 E.S.A.A
Standard Tables 2020 E.S.A.A. National Standards are those performance levels for which standard badges may be purchased at the National Championships. Entry Standards are the minimum performance levels normally required for an athlete to be selected for a County Team for the National Championships. County Standards correspond to a good standard of performance by an athlete competing in a County Championship meeting. District Standard corresponds to a good standard of performance by an athlete competing at a District Championship meeting. These may need amendment to suit the variations in type of District Championship staged. School Standard corresponds to a good standard of performance by an athlete competing at a School Championship meeting. Except for Year 7 and 8 tables - the age groups, events and event specifications are as set out in the Track and Field Competition Rules. Years 7 and 8 The variety of events and specifications is offered in order to cater for the intense athletic interest and for the rapid physical changes which take place at this stage. It is stressed that success in the initial teaching of athletics stems from the understanding that the physical challenge to the pupil should not exceed that which can be comfortably handled. All children, therefore, should be started with light implements and low hurdles, and be allowed to progress as appropriate to themselves. This will almost certainly create some problems of organisation at school level, but these are NOT insurmountable. The Standards shown for younger age groups and for School and District level are being re-worked to match the Awards Scheme.
