Mit seinem neuen Album geht er noch ein paar Schritte weiter, in dem er Kirchenmusik, R&B, Art-Pop, Krautrock und Queer-Soul vermischt und damit unter Beweis stellt, was für ein großer Songwriter in ihm steckt. Das Album „No Shape“ erschien am 05. Mai 2017. In Zusammenarbeit mit Blake Mills, der u.a. das letzte Alabama Shakes Album produzierte und mit John Legend auftritt, hat Mike Hadreas eine neue Komfort-Zone gefunden und seinen Sound auf die nächste Ebene gebracht. Der neue Song „Slip Away“ zeigt zudem das frisch gewonnene Selbstbewusstsein von Perfume Genius. This bibliography includes resources about gay men, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgender persons involved in the popular music field. The books have all been published in print, and many of them may also be found as e-books. Separate sections contain memoirs, novels, plays, and children’s and teen books. Several LGBT popular music-related DVDs are also listed. Each book and DVD has a link to the OCLC WorldCat record (when available) where you can see which libraries hold the item. Most of this resource is comprised of a discography of popular music recordings by LGBTQ artists. Kate Stables – This Is the Kit
Kate Stables – This is the Kit Bristol and Paris-based Kate Stables is behind This is the Kit – a musical project which has earned the adoration of peers including Guy Garvey, The National and Sharon van Etten. Their latest album and their Rough Trade debut, Moonshine Freeze, was produced by John Parish (PJ Harvey, M Ward, Perfume Genius). It was developed straight after its predecessor, Bashed Out, when days after coming off tour, Stables and her band headed into Geoff Barrow’s Invada Studios in Bristol. Aaron Dessner of The National also features on six of the album tracks. Kate talks passionately about the importance of making creative and professional decisions as independently as possible. She sees Momentum as a vital enabler of artistic and professional independence and as a way to build a stronger voice for artists when labels show an interest: I was looking for funding to continue the work I do in a way I don’t have to compromise. I didn’t want to get corporate involvement on their terms or sign a less favourable record deal. Momentum funding was used to develop and record Moonshine Freeze and Kate feels the fund helped make the LP on their own terms – Kate and john Parish. There is a direct correlation between the funding and the band – it helped to pay for the musicians I wanted to come on tour with me and to pay for the horn section. Momentum then has helped This is the Kit to develop and grow on their terms. Kate makes the equivalence to arts funding where this approach is the norm for visual or performing artists: I have a clear idea and think I know how to execute it.

Perfume Genius on Being Honest
April 7, 2017 - Perfume Genius is the project of Tacoma, Washington-based singer/songwriter, Mike Hadreas. He’s released four albums: Learning (2010), Put Your Back N 2 It (2012), Too Bright (2014), and No Shape (2017). His main collaborator is his partner, Alan Wyffels. Perfume Genius on being honest “I’m really bad at being busy. To be honest, I'm bad at not being busy, too.” What is it like being in a creative partnership with someone who’s also your partner? It’s a lot. We’re around each other 24 hours a day. Just relationship wise, you have to learn how to do that. He’s studied music and went to school for music, which is something I didn’t do. So, he hears things differently than I do. He teaches piano, so he’ll go to work doing that and then I’ll go in my room and write. Then when he comes home I play him what I’ve made. In the beginning, I’ll have mostly the mood and the spirit of it. He can hear the actual music and the structure and the chords more than I do in the moment.
