@ElRanchoHS Welcome Back Assembly - August The Welcome Back Assembly is a pep rally in the Ernie Johnson Don Memorial Stadium, which welcomes staff and students to a new school year. During the assembly, administra- tion are introduced, team captains for all of the fall sports are recognized, there are perfor- mances by various organizations and a variety of games and class cheers for class cup points.

Club Fair - September The Club Fair usually takes place in the begin- ning of the school year during lunch. This event is intended to benefit both the clubs and the students. The students are looking for somewhere to belong and participate, while the club seeks participants.

Staff Appreciation Football Game - September All teachers and staff here at El Rancho High School have devoted their time to edu- cating students. To thank the staff, every year during Football season, a dinner is held on the football field during a game for the teachers and their families.

Pep Commission - All year The students of the Pep Commission (open to all students) meet each Monday after school to make informational signs and other spirit decorations for the vari- ous sporting events on campus.

- 1 - Homecoming Week Blue Pride Day - October This is the kick-off day for Homecoming week. On this day we decorate our en- tire school according to our Homecom- ing theme. There is Blue Pride almost ev- erywhere. Teacher and staff doors and the main gates to enter the school are decorated. In addition, at lunch there is a runway and each grade level president and the class advisor compete for which class has the most Blue Pride!

Homecoming Games Games are played during lunch on the first day of homecoming week. The points received are added up with the points from previous class competitions.

Homecoming Carnival Homecoming carnival is a food car- nival where clubs, sports and other organizations sell snacks, drinks and desserts as a fundraiser for their group. The carnival takes place dur- ing lunch in the quad and a variety of food is available for all to enjoy.

Night Pep Rally This is one of the most well attended events. All classes dress up according to their themes and participate in class cheers as well as a skit. Each of the performing groups puts on a two or three minute routine as well, and the decath- letes are introduced and recognized. This event is an opportunity for students to represent their class and school spirit. Parents, alumni and community members also attend. - 2 - Homecoming Assembly and Halftime Show The Homecoming Assembly is held on the last day of Homecoming Week during lunch in the main gym. We begin with the introduction of the homecoming candidates and among the candidates, the freshman, sophomore, junior princesses are announced, as well as the three senior princesses. The Homecoming Queen’s identity is left a mystery until the Homecom- ing Game that same night. During the halftime show of the Homecoming Game all the prin- cesses are recognized, and Homecoming Queen is announced and crowned by the previous year’s Homecoming Queen.

Homecoming Dance The Homecoming Dance traditionally follows the Homecoming football game on Friday night from 9pm-midnight. Many attend the dance and semi-formal attire is usually worn but some students also go casual. The dance is open to all ERHS students and their guests, and while some go with dates, many attend with friends. The dance is a fun way to end a long week of activities.

Senior Night Football Game - November Senior Night takes place during the last home football game of the sea- son. All parents of senior football play- ers, pepsters, colorguard and band members are recognized at half time.

- 3 - Talent Show - November This event brings the school together to enjoy the performances of our very talented stu- dents. The talent show contains three main categories: dance, singing, and bands. It is open to anyone who would like to participate and there are three winners in each category who receive a prize. This event usually takes place in the main gym on a Thursday evening. Canned Food Drive - November This is an important time of year. ASB collects cans for 2 weeks to help out the less fortu- nate in the community. To encourage others to bring cans there is a class competition, and the winners receive a pizza party. The canned goods are donated to the Pico Rivera Christ- mas Basket Committee, which is overseen by the city of Pico Rivera. Powder Puff Pep Rally & Game - December The Powder Puff Pep Rally and game usually fall on the Thursday before winter break. It involves humor- ous performances by male senior and junior cheer- leaders and class cheers accompanied by the Powder Puff football players. Although this sounds like your regular pep rally and football game, it isn’t. The purpose of Powder puff is for the boys and the girls to step in each other’s shoes for a day. At halftime of the game a cheerleader is crowned, King of Powder Puff, as voted for by students.

El Rancho Pride Day - January ER Pride Day every January on the El Rancho campus. It is a day where stu- dents stay after school to help teachers and administrators clean classrooms, plant flowers and paint when necessary. Students describe this day as “A great way to clean our school and have fun!” - 4 - Basketball Senior-Parent Night - February On this night, the seniors and their par- ents of the boys and girls varsity team are acknowledged and thanked for their years of hard-work and support. Before each game, the parents and player are presented to the audience.

Basketball Staff Appreciation - February During basketball season, Varsity players are allowed to pick a staff member of their choice in honor of appreciating them and all their hard work. Each staff member receives a T-Shirt that has the player’s jersey number on the back. This event usu- ally takes place in between the girls and boys varsity games.

Winterbelle - February At halftime of the boys varsity bas- ketball game, Winterbelle nominees are introduced and the Winterbelle princesses, princes, king and queen are crowned.

Winter Formal - February Winter Formal is an off-campus dance where students dress very elegantly and are able to enjoy each other’s company through delicious food and great music!

- 5 - Mother-Daughter Dessert - March The participants often dress alike for this popular evening event. Moms and their daughters get some special to- gether time. There is food, games and entertainment!

Sadie’s Pep Rally - March This is an event that takes place in the main gym during lunch. The purpose is to advertise the Sadie Hawkins Dance and to pump up the school spirit by playing games, music and having class competitions. ASB decorates the gym according to the theme of the dance. It is also an event where we introduce the spring sports captains and wish the teams ‘good luck’ for their upcom- ing seasons.

Sadie Hawkins Dance This is a very fun and casual dance that takes place on campus. This particular dance is where a girl will ask a boy, instead of the traditional boy asking the girl. Every year there is a new theme that the students can dress up to.

- 6 - Multicultural Carnival - April The Multicultural Carnival is an event at lunch were a variety of our school clubs and sports teams have the opportunity to sell various types of foods as a fundraiser for that club or sport, which gives the different organizations the opportunity to fundraise for field trips or school gear and equipment

King of the Ranch - May This is a competition among senior boys to see which truly bleeds blue! To be crowned King, a senior must participate in a variety of events includ- ing talent, swimsuit, interview, etc. This event takes place during lunch in the Little Theater over the course of a week and current ERHS staff members judge it.

Dodgeball Tournament - May The dodgeball tournament occurs at lunch in the quad. Students organize into teams of 10 to participate. Based on the number of teams, the tourna- ment is either single or double elimi- nation and games are played at lunch each day during the week until all teams except one are eliminated.

- 7 - -May This is an off campus dance for upper- classmen and is a night of dancing and making memories. There is food, music, and dancing with fellow students. The dance is decorated with the theme that is chosen by the junior class. It is a night to make memories and have fun.

Pep Rally on Wheels - May El Rancho’s Pep Rally on Wheels is very similar to our other outstanding pep rallies throughout the school year. However, this pep rally is taken to all three middle schools in order to show all incoming freshmen everything that The Ranch has to offer when entering high school. Repre- sentatives from various organizations talk to the incoming freshmen and inspire them to become increasingly involved in high school.

Seniors vs. Staff Week - May This is another end of the school year event for the graduating seniors. It is a week where the seniors and staff play competitive games and sports during lunch and after school. The winners of the challenge are acknowledged to all who participated. Senior vs. Staff Week is a great way to involve staff and all seniors in a friendly competition.

Farewell Assembly - May The Farewell Assembly takes place in the Don Memo- rial stadium and is a time for all classes to end the school year showing their blue pride. Not only is it a farewell to the seniors but also it is a time for cel- ebration of another school year completed. Games are played, all performing groups perform for the last time together, and athletes of the year and other outstanding students are announced.
