Traurig, doch auch dankbar für die uns geschenkte Zeit, nehmen wir Abschied von unserem Schützenkameraden Gottfried «Göpf» Diener 1. November 1926 bis 26. Mai 2015 Gottfried Diener, ein grosser Sportler, Sportförderer und Schützenkamerad, ist nach längerer Krankheit im Alter von 88 Jahren in Engelberg verstorben. Er hatte ein langes, intensives und reich erfülltes Leben. Gottfried Diener startete für den Zürcher Bob Club. Bei der Bob-Weltmeisterschaft 1954 gewann er zusammen mit Pilot Fritz Feierabend, Harry Warburton und Heinrich Angst den Titel im Viererbob. Im Jahr darauf wurde er zusammen mit Pilot Franz Kapus, Robert Alt und Heinrich Angst zum zweiten Mal Weltmeister. In dieser Besetzung traten die vier Schweizer auch bei den Olympischen Spielen 1956 in Cortina d'Ampezzo an und gewannen dort die Goldmedaille. Der Ausnahmesportler begann seine Karriere als Nationalturner und Ringer. Nach dem Bobfahren erzielte er als Armbrustschütze internationale Spitzenresultate, unter anderem einen Europameistertitel. Sein Abschied als Aktiver von der Sportbühne war gleichzeitig der Start als Funktionär und Sportförderer im Bereich Arm- brustschiessen. Er war Mitglied in den Vorstandsgremien des Eidgenössischen- und Zürcher Armbrustschüt- zen-Verbandes sowie in der ehemaligen nationalen Armbrust-Matchschützen-Vereinigung. Er war Mentor der Armbrustschützen bei der Sporthilfe sowie Initiant, langjähriger Obmann und geschätzter Ehrenobmann der Armbrust-Schützengesellschaft Luzern. Von 1965 bis 1999 war er Präsident und schliesslich Ehrenpräsident der Internationalen Armbrustschützen Union (IAU). Doch nur Spass zu haben genügte den waghalsigen Briten nicht. Sie legten sich bäuchlings auf die Schlitten und fuhren so um die Wette. Auf die Wintersaison 1884/85 hin liess Badrutt die Tobogganingbahn „Cresta-Run“ von St. Moritz nach Celerina bauen. Die Schlitten wurden vereinfacht, woraus sich der Skeleton, auf Deutsch „Skelett“, entwickelte. Vier Jahre später, in der Wintersaison 1888/89, koppelte der New Yorker Kurgast Stephen Whitney in Davos zwei niedrige "Americas-Schlitten", die 1887 auftauchten, und ihre Überlegenheit gegenüber den "Davosern" bewiesen, zusammen. Whitney verband die beiden Gefährte durch ein verschraubtes Liegebett, wobei er den vorderen, mit Hilfe eines Bolzens lenkbar gemachten Schlitten, als Steuer verwendete.
