This was the fourth consecutive year of growth in the number of French films scheduled (359 in 1995, 379 in 1996, and 404 in 1997). 91 films were programmed on Telepiu, and 390 on the free TV channels. Italian TV channels also devoted a larger share of their line-up to French fare. Of the more than 12,000 movie broadcasts, French films were aired 955 times, taking out 7.8% of film slots, showing an increase of 3.4 points compared with 1997. Their share of movie airtime rose significantly on the free TV channels, up from 1.9% to 5.3%. Traditionally giving greatest exposure to French films, RAI 3 bested past records this year. With 107 titles programmed, it outstripped even Telepiu, the specialist movie channel, in which Canal Plus had recently acquired a stake. The three public broadcasters stepped up the number of French films offered in 1998, demonstrated by an increase on RAI 1 from 41 titles broadcast in 1997 to 77 in 1998, and on RAI 2, from 30 to 32 titles. Of all the commercial channels, Rete 4 had always been the most oriented to French films. This year, it broadcast 84 titles, 38 more than the previous year.

    FRENCH-AMERICAN FOUNDATION UNITED STATES ANNUAL REPORT JUNE 2012—JUNE 2013 Dear Friends and Supporters, For almost 40 years, the French-American Foundation—United States has played an important role in strengthening the relations between France and the United States. We have pursued this mission by bringing together leaders from both countries in exchange programs that address critical issues facing each nation. Our signature Young Leaders program convened last October in Paris and Le Havre to explore topics ranging from leadership, financial stability and debt, to globalization, city planning, education, and money in politics. A moving visit to the Normandy beaches reminded us of the sacrifices made by the brave French and Americans who fought together to ensure freedom on both sides of the Atlantic. Special thanks go to Young Leader Edouard Philippe – a member of the Assemblée Nationale and Mayor of Le Havre – who opened his vibrant city to the 40 Young Leaders who gathered there. Now 32 years old, our Young Leaders program has nearly 400 alumni in France and the United States. Together with our sister organization, the French-American Foundation—France, we have launched a new online directory of Young Leaders and hope to use this remarkable network to strengthen the transatlantic partnership throughout the year. The Translation Prize celebrated its 25th anniversary in June 2012, and we had another strong group of fiction and nonfiction finalists in 2013. Jean-Louis (Fabrice Luchini, Potiche) lives a bourgeois existence absorbed in his work, cohabitating peacefully with his neurotic socialite wife Suzanne (Sandrine Kiberlain, Mademoiselle Chambon) while their children are away at boarding school. The couple’s world is turned upside-down when they hire a Spanish maid María (Natalia Verbeke). Through María, Jean-Louis is introduced to an alternative reality just a few floors up on the building’s sixth floor, the servants’ quarters. He befriends a group of sassy Spanish maids (Pedro Almodóvar regular Carmen Maura, Lola Dueñas, Berta Ojea, Nuria Solé, Concha Galán), refugees of the Franco regime, who teach him there’s more to life than stocks and bonds, and whose influence on the house will ultimately transform everyone’s life.

DOUMIC French Icons 19.04.19 > 01.06.19 À l’occasion de l’anniversaire des 70 ans d’UniFrance, Anne- Dominique Toussaint est heureuse de présenter French Icons, une rétrospective des photographies de Philippe R. Doumic (1927-2013) à la Galerie Cinema à partir du 19 avril 2018. Philippe René Doumic fait ses début dans les années 60 en réalisant pour UniFrance de nombreux portraits noir et blanc des étoiles montantes du cinéma français: actrices, acteurs, cinéastes. Il travaille en lumière naturelle, signe ses photos «Philippe R. Doumic» et réalise lui-même ses tirages qui sont diffusés à travers le monde par UniFrance pour promouvoir ceux dont les films rencontrent un succès grandissant au-delà de nos frontières. Grâce à la persévérance de Sébastien Cauchon, directeur de la Communication d’UniFrance mais également collectionneur qui possédait dans ses archives personnelles un tirage vintage de Jean-Paul Belmondo par Philippe Doumic, la trace du photographe qui s’était perdue au fil des ans a été retrouvée en la personne de sa fille, Laurence Doumic, réalisatrice, alors désireuse avec ses proches de remettre dans la lumière le travail de son père disparu. A l’occasion des 70 ans d’UniFrance, tous deux se sont plongés dans les archives de Philippe Doumic, inexploitées pendant près de 60 ans, et qui comportent plusieurs milliers de négatifs pour composer cette première exposition consacrée au photographe, intitulée, French Icons. A travers 40 images, en grandes parties inédites, c’est une partie du voile qui se lève sur une œuvre sans équivalent aux côtés des grands noms du 7e Art.

Ce n’est pas dans la moiteur de l’été, se dit le comédien, alors que la chemise imprégnée de transpiration colle littéralement à son torse, que se jouent les destins. De toute façon, à 25 ans, il n’envisage rien. Il subit. Faute de maîtriser le cours des choses, il se concentre sur ce qu’il sait faire de mieux : marcher.
