1. PURPOSE
1.1 The purpose of this report is to submit the draft minute of the Wishaw and Newmains Community Forum meeting to the Area Committee. The minute of 14 September 2000 is attached as Appendix 1 to this report.
2. RECOMMENDATIONS
2.1 Wishaw and District Area Committee is requested to note the Wishaw and Newmains Community Forum minute.

1. Introduction and Welcome
In opening the meeting Mr Gray welcomed forum members and in particular welcomed Hugh McGhee, Housing Benefits Manager, North Lanarkshire Council.
2. Minute of 3'd August 2000
The minute was approved.
3. Matters Arising
3.1 Weedkilling
Councillor Love updated the Forum on weather problems, which has caused problems in Cambusnethan, Newmains and Bonkle. P Poole advised that weather permitting work will be scheduled for this weekend.
3.2 Cambusnethan Cemetery
Forum to write to Superintendent Alasdair Ingram regarding ongoing problems.
3.3 Woodside Crescent, Newmains
A member of the Forum advised that it is now quiet in the area and gave a vote of thanks to Councillor McKendrick.
3.4 Street Cleaning
Still issues to be addressed. Forum to invite representatives from Community Services to future meetings.

4. Presentation by North Lanarkshire Council
Hugh McGhee, Housing Benefits Manager gave a presentation on reasons for Verification Framework coming into play for North Lanarkshire Council.
He outlined details of documents which were required to allow Housing Benefit claims to be processed.
Questions were asked on reasons for Benefit Agency being able to accept more documents than Housing. It was explained that the Council laid down the agreed criteria after full consultation with other agencies and could not amend.
Following a range of other questions Reverend I Murdoch thanked Hugh for his input to the meeting.
5. Any Other Business
5. I Roundabout - Kenilworth AvenueKirk Road
A member of the Forum enquired regarding having a sign stating “stay in lane” to avoid p-ossible accidents at junction. Forum to speak to Planning & Roads Department regarding this request.
5.2 Membership of Forum
Mr Gray to speak to Barbara Philibben regarding extension of membership.
5.3 MP Attendance
Forum to consider future invitation to Frank Roy
5.4 Social Work & Police
Mr Gray to invite Mr Jim Dickie, Director of Social Work and Superintendent Alisdair Ingram, to next meeting to discuss common issues
6. Date and Time of Next Meeting
The next meeting of the forum will be held on Thursday 26 October at 7.15pm in King Street, Wishaw.
