Puri Railway Station is a terminating A1 category (At present NSG-2) Station of Khurda Road Division of East Coast Railway in Indian Railway. The overall footfall is 12,000 nos. and around 10,000 nos. of outward passengers are dealt here on daily basis. Around forty (40) pairs of Express Trains and eight (8) pairs of Passenger Trains are dealt here on daily basis. The world famous Car Festival is held every year and pilgrims from various part of the world come to have a glimpse of Lord Jagannath with religious fervor. During this period, Indian railway plays a major role in providing temporary free accommodation in Mela Shed with free medical assistance to passenger. To cater to the travel requirement of the passengers during Car Festival. adequate number of special trains are run between Puri-Howrah, Puri-Rourkela, Puri-Palasa Major trains originating from are PURI-Howrah Express, Puri-New Purusottam Express. Puri Kalinga Utkal Express. The availability of Sun Temple proximate to Puri , the existence of Heritage BNR Hotel and the well stretched Sea Beach attracts tourists from different parts of the world.

3. Cleanliness and sanitation

At Puri Railway Station,cleanliness is maintained in a well coordinated manner with divine attitude for the fulfillment of passengers basic amenities and maintaining pleasant atmosphere at Station premises. Mechanical department is dealing with coach cleaning whereas maintenance of cleanliness at station premises is dealt by Environment & Housekeeping Management (EnHM) Wing.

The cleanliness of Station premises is maintained by EnHM Wing through mechanized cleaning contract. The contractual staffs are working in 3- Shifts on daily basis. Advanced cleaning equipments are used for cleaning purpose. Adequate numbers of dustbins are provided inside and outside station area to ensure segregation of waste at source. The collected Organic waste are further utilized in Biogas Plant where as the inorganic waste are handed over to Municipal Authorities for further disposal at their end. Two (02) Plastic Bottle Crushing Machines have been installed on platform to collect PET bottles .

Awareness among passenger plays an indispensable role for maintaining cleanliness. This awareness is created by displaying posters & banners and through public announcement system. Passengers are penalized for littering at station premises. Special attention towards cleanliness is focused during Cleanliness Drives i.e. Swachh Pakhwada and Swachhta Hi Seva Abhiyan..

4. Penalty Clause for Affecting Cleanliness of Station Premises

Applicable for NSG-2 to NSG-4 Category Stations

(Puri, Bhubaneswar, Bhadrak, Brahmapur, Balugaon,Cuttack, Jajpur Keonjhar Road,Khurda Road and Palasa) of Khurda Road Division.
