RYAN COLE Completes His Own “March Madness” With an 812 by Frank Weiler MURRIETA — Ryan Cole has been posting big scores for years. He regularly rolls perfect games and 800s. Five years ago he set a new house record for Cal Oaks Bowl (858) which still stands. Last Thursday Ryan rolled an 812 (288-255-269) in Cal Oaks 640 Scratch Trio League to finish the month of March averaging close to 265 in the league, for the month. The month also included a 300 game. It was Ryan’s version of “March Madness”. That is, March Bowling Madness. So to what does Ryan attribute his March Madness success? Having a plan, sticking to the plan and hard work. With the help of teammate DARRON PETERS he has retooled his game, his equipment and his bowling work ethic. Ryan’s results prove that practice and adjustments are important. He also found that the proper equipment is also vital to scoring. By working with Darron he found that getting his equipment to match the lane conditions he was bowling on was just as important. Peters, proprietor of the Rollin’ Rock Pro Shop, has guided Ryan’s ball choices this season and laid them out perfectly. Speaking of ball choices and layouts, Ryan’s new DV8 Grudge has helped him set a torrid pace throughout March. Ryan’s low series with his Grudge is 778! Read again, RYAN’S LOW SET WITH THE GRUDGE IS 778! Dar- ron used a centered high pin on the aggressive Grudge to give Ryan the length and backend he needed to score. Ryan is grateful to Peters for being so instrumental in improving his game. Congratulations to Ryan and thanks to the BOWLING NEWS for supporting CA bowlers. Page 4 BOWLING NEWS April 7, 2016
DUTCH BOWLING continued from page 1 van Gurp, his material caregiver and one of his two trainers, says that Yorick has a natural talent. He has a natural way of swing and release. His motor skills are extremely suitable for bowling. He trains almost daily for an hour and a half in the gym, in addition to the training sessions at the bowling alley. At the EYC 2016 Reykjavik he unfortunately failed and was a little bit unlucky in the games. The Championship had to be achieved in 5 steps. In Step 4 in the quarterfinals, Yorick defeated his direct opponent Alexy Steppin from Russia with a score of 793 for 3 games and an average of 246.33. In the semifinal, he bowled the late winner William Svensson (Sweden). Svensson scored games of 213-233-248 = 694 pins with an average of 231.33. Which is a huge score., against van Deutekom games of 240-197-225 = 220.66 avg. And here ended the journey from the defending champion. Third place. Bronze Medal. Svensson won the finalstep against the Finn, Jesse Ahokas and became the European Champion 2016. Svensson, was during the championship the better one, in all levels, Doubles, Single, etc etc. Bowling talents are very often coming from the Scandinavian countries Sweden, Nor- way and Finland, where bowling is a bigger sport than in other European countries. It is no suprise any more that these talents are discovered by talentscouts and coming up from these countries, and later on, are bumping up to the PBA. But bowling talents coming up from a small country like the Netherlands who can make the final step to the PBA level, is an exception. So stay with me and follow these Dutch players. Maybe you can remember this article and recognize them in future when they play as a Pro in the PBA. Editors Note: Sounds like being on the PBA tour is a dream of a lot of Europeon youth bowlers.
