Tournament program A Word from Steve

This has been a busy time for us as we celebrate the 35th birthday of Tenpins & More, which officially opened on July 31, 1983. The Center began life as Ranchero Bowl, then re-named Ideal Lanes and Fun Steve Mackie Lanes before Dana, Mike and I took over ownership on December 11, 1999, almost 19 years ago. Time has gone by fast. The business has changed somewhat, particularly in the new Centers which cater more Steve Mackie with Mayor Gregg Hull to open play and company parties than the previous business model of leagues that served the industry well for decades. We have continued here to cater to our loyal league and AUGUST IS OFFICIALLY tournament customers, while also embracing regular and "BOWLING MONTH 2018" occasional "walk-in" bowlers, birthday parties, fund-raisers and special small (and large) groups. 3 GREAT FIELD ENTERING FOR A SHOT AT $12 G’s

Entries at date of this writing were at a record pace, about 30 ahead of the previous best for mid-July, indicating that we might beat the old mark of 217 in 2013. Apart from defending champion, Vern Peterson, we have other prior winners, including Chris Klerk, Andrew Cain, John Young, Eric Hatchett and back again. Butturff recently won his 16th regional title, one of the fastest to get there in PBA history. Then there's former US Open winners, Robert Lawrence and Francois Lavoie (who bowled a televised 300 en route to the title last year), ABC Masters champ, Brett Wolfe and Team USA alumni, Kyle King and Steve Smith as well as the popular Englishman, Stu Williams. Add in two-handed 14-year-old Deo Benard, who bowled his sixth 300 at last month's Junior Gold event in DFW along with Tenpins' highest league average Matt Smith and we have the start of a truly stellar line-up.

At Tenpins & More, we've also enjoyed the coaching skills of Mike Miller, Billy Grant, Don Thompson, Rick Benard, Bob Thurston, Ron and Tammy Michel among others as we continue to try and grow the sport. While it's not much fun dealing with the occasional "armchair critic", there is immense joy in seeing people improve and run to tell you of their new "personal best". It's one way of giving back and saying thank you to a game that is generally under-valued in a society so focused on money and "bigger is better". Bowling gives so much to so many! Psalm 37:4

18 BOWLING IS A LIFETIME SPORT

Bowling is one of a very few, truly lifetime sports; a game that can be played literally from almost the cradle to just before the grave, all the while at a reasonably high level. You can go online and see film of a then three-year-old using two hands to propel a 10lb house ball down lane 16 at his dad's house in Orange, New South Wales, Australia. Or go to Youtube.com and request TV news footage of an octagenerian somewhere on planet Earth Simply visit any Bowling Center, day or night, and you'll witness a wide cross-section of society bowling league, open play or in a group or date setting. Everyone can bowl. Tenpins & More has been a supporter of numerous Special Olympics chapters, ARCA and other special needs folks. There's a Wheelchair Bowling Association in the US as well as many military and first responders outfits that stage national championship tournaments on a regular basis. Add in the PBA national and regional tours, PBA50 for seniors and PWBA for women along with tens of thousands of "weekend warriors" and the full spectrum of people who really enjoy bowling isn't yet complete. League bowlers remain a strong backbone of the game and there are millions of them around the world where the sport is played in more than 130 countries. Want more proof - then go to Sam's Town Bowling Center in Las Vegas later this year and watch the 53rd running of the Qubica/AMF Bowling World Cup, which will bring together the national champions from nearly 90 countries. The oldest champion is 53-year-old Italian, Remo Fornasari in Kuala Lumpur in 1987 while one of the youngest winners was recent Hall-of-Fame inductee, American, Lucy Sandelin (then Giovinco) in 1976 in, of all places, Tehran, Iran.

23 Our sponsors, mostly vendors and league bowlers at Tenpins & More, help this tournament continue to grow and move ahead in entries, prize money and reputation. If we fill our projected spots, we will pay out well over last year’s record $60,000!

Please patronize these businesses at every opportunity and let them know you appreciate their contribution and their support of the great sport of bowling.
