6 Council has completed a number of improvements to Clifton Park and the Dog Off Leash area within Clifton Park, Sanctuary Point. Mayor Amanda Findley is delighted with the latest embellishments funded by Council that will benefit a range of community members. “Sanctuary Point Men’s Shed have been a great help with constructing and installing dog agility equipment,” she said. “Dog owners will also notice the installation of a dog waste bag dispenser and a dog ‘Rehydration Station’ within the dog off leash area,” said Clr Findley. "The new picnic shelter and wheelchair accessible double BBQ are perfect for families and community groups who are planning to lunch in the beautiful outdoors.” New directional fingerboard signage outside and within the park will help visitors to locate each attraction. The park has recently undergone an impressive transformation with the installation of a new, inclusive playground which is located close to the learn to ride area.

As I was at that time on my knees pulling out weeds I had to say I would be there in a minute. When I regained my feet I went down the back yard to ask what he wanted me to see. To say I was surprised is putting it mildly as on some pieces of timber near his shed was a huge swam of bees. When I say huge, the swarm was about the size of 2 soccer balls with other bees busily swarming around. We were not about to get too close, so we contacted a friend who has a next door neighbour who has beehives and secured a number to call. This turned out to be the Shoalhaven Bee Keepers Association. The person we contacted then contacted someone who lived closer to us. The young man arrived within half an hour and he was thrilled to see this huge swarm. As we talked, it turned out that he was the son and grandson of people I knew reasonably well. So there was a good connection. We took some photos which I then sent on to my relations in Canada and the UK. We have been assured that there will be some honey coming our way from our guests. The importance of this little story is if this happens in your garden, don’t try to move them yourself, contact the friendly experts who will come and do it for you and take the bees to a safe and productive environment. I think most of know that without bees there is no pollination which is vital for the life of plants in our area. It was an exciting time for a hot Saturday and if we were hot, think of the beekeeper in his protective gear. 16 17 18 Community Groups SANCTUARY POINT MEN’S SHED THUNDER-DOGS ARE GO! Recent human trials of the new Dog Training facilities at Clifton Park have been completed successfully. All equipment was thoroughly tested to avoid any risk to dogs. The equipment has now been certified “Safe & Suitable for Canine Use”. The facility, consisting of ramps, hurdles and tunnels, was constructed and installed by Sanctuary Point Mens Shed, with funding provided by Shoalhaven Council. This is the latest addition to the Clifton Street Community precinct, to enhance the Off-Lead dog area, and alongside the “Learn to Ride” bicycle track, childrens playground, barbecue facilities, Community Food Garden and Mens Shed. Unfortunately, the plans for the international airport have not yet been approved.

ELECTION RESULTS At last, the most watched (and feared) election is over, and the new Administration of the Sanctuary Point Mens Shed has taken office. After a long and bitter campaign, “Razor” Ray held on to the Presidency, on the back of his promises to “Make the Shed Great Again”. He will be helped by Michael (“Milky Bar Kid”) as Vice President, in charge of damage control. Ned scraped into the Secretary’s position by the narrowest of margins, and after three re-counts, despite running unopposed. Bob’s election as Treasurer was also contentious. Howls of “Rigged” and “Stolen Election” were only silenced when he finally agreed to buy lamingtons at all future meetings. Rounding out the Committee were the three General Reps: “Lucky” Phil, Bill (“barnacle on the backside of life”) and Gigawatt Glen. The Stock Market chaos that followed the election results has finally settled down to a nervous normality.

19 BAY & BASIN COMMUNITY RESOURCES (BBCR) “IT Pioneers” Conquering the world of technology In 2018, BBCR recognised the importance and value of supporting our senior community members in conquering the world of technology by introducing the “IT Pioneers”. Project. The benefits of this project to our consumers included social connection through technology, IT Pioneer Margaret Sharman maintaining safety, keeping their bodies and relaxing with her devices minds working through exercise apps and games, managing their medication and appointments, keeping track of their health and more. With the coronavirus pandemic, seniors have become more isolated than ever and the “IT Pioneers” project has ensured that the consumers where ready and able to use technology in their daily lives to reduce isolation and keep them connected and safe. One of the founding members of the “IT Pioneers”, Margaret Sharman at the young age of 86 has embraced technology. In 2019 after completing the initial introduction to technology on a secured tablet device Margaret wanted more. BBCR through the Community Home Support program were able to assist and support Margaret in her next step towards conquering the world of technology with the purchase of her first mobile phone. Margaret’s passion for technology did not stop there and she has gone on to purchase a Tablet and with the support of both BBCR staff and volunteers and is continuing to develop her technological skills. Before becoming an IT Pioneer, Margaret received shopping catalogues in the mail, used a dictionary, encyclopedia, paper & pen. Now she uses technology to see what is on special, keep up with the news, connect with her friends by emails and texting, and stimulate her mind and body with games and apps. When asked how technology has changed her life, Margaret with a glint in her eyes, a beautiful smile told us that being part of the IT Pioneers totally changed her life in so many ways and she is looking forward to attending the BBCR Technology workshops this year to continue to conquer technology. If you would like to become an IT Pioneer, and are registered with My Aged Care, contact BBCR on 4443 3434 and talk to one of our helpful team members. Our next project is to develop a great play area around our Top COLA near our Learning Hub. Our school is looking great and our teachers are the best, so your children are in the best hands.
