Specifically, it includes arrivals at El Paso, Texas, from May 1903 to June 1909; arrivals at Brownsville, Del Rio, Eagle Pass, Laredo, Presidio, Rio Grande City, and Roma, Texas, from July 1906 to June 1909; and arrivals at Aros Ranch, Douglas, Lochiel, Naco, and Nogales, Arizona, July 1906–December 1910. Arrangement is chronological by year, then roughly chronological by quarter year, then by port of arrival. These records are part of the Records of the Immigration and Naturalization Service, Record Group (RG) 85. Background Early records relating to immigration originated in regional customhouses. The U.S. Customs Service conducted its business by designating collection districts. Each district had a headquarters port with a customhouse and a collector of customs, the chief officer of the district. An act of March 2, 1819 (3 Stat. 489) required the captain or master of a vessel arriving at a port in the United States or any of its territories from a foreign country to submit a list of passengers to the collector of customs.

From Bloodless Revolution to Bloody Counterrevolution: The Adana Massacres of 1909 1 Bedross Der Matossian University of Nebraska–Lincoln Abstract The historiography of the Adana Massacres of 1909 is represented by two diverging views. While some Turkish scholars deny the involvement of the local government officials in the massacres by putting all of the blame on the Armenians who revolted as part of a conspiracy to establish a kingdom in Cilicia, some Armenian scholars, whose work is overshadowed by the Armenian genocide, accuse the Committee of Union and Progress (CUP) of acting behind the scenes to destroy the Armenian economic infrastructure in Adana in order to curb any future political and economic development in the area.

  • Gazette 1905 - 1909
Index: Middleboro Gazette 1905 - 1909 Introduction The Middleboro Gazette Index, 1905 - 1909 is a guide to the information contained within the Middleboro Gazette during the period January 1905 through December 1909. The information is as it appears in the newspaper and no attempt has been made to verify that the information given in the newspaper is accurate. The focus of the index is on the communities of Middleboro and Lakeville, Massachusetts. News from outside these geographic areas is included only if there is a direct link to these towns, i.e., Phineas T. Barnum and the Little People. Special notations are used within the index to designate editorials (e), letters (l), tables (t), photographs (p) and illustrations (i). Authors of editorials or letters are cited either within the headline or in parentheses immediately following either (e) or (l). The often informal nature of reporting presents special challenges to researchers. Additional information about specific businesses, town departments or other concerns can be located under general headines, i.e., Railroads, Streets, etc. Names are a particular challenge in a compilation of this kind. Multiple spellings, misspellings and incomplete names are just a few of the hurdles that must be overcome in order to glean every bit of information contained within the pages of the Gazette. For example, Mr. Elnathan W. Wilbur may be cited as any or all of the following: Wilbur, Elnathan W. Wilbur, Elnathan Wilbur, E.W. Wilbur, E. Wilbur (Mr) Wilbur (Captain) Mr. Wilbur’s last name may also be spelled, Wilbor, Wilber, Wilbour or Wilbur. In addition married women were also frequently cited as Mrs.
