In partnership with the United Center, the Chicago Board of Elections is expanding safe and accessible voting options and designating the United Center as an additional option for Chicago voters. “We are proud to partner with the United Center to make voting even easier for Chicagoans on Election Day,” said Chicago Board of Election Chairwoman Marisel Hernandez. “We’re encouraging everyone to plan their vote – whether that’s by mail, early in person, or in person on Election Day – there are multiple options and we hope Chicagoans will choose the option most convenient for them to vote.” On Election Day, the United Center, located at 1901 W. Madison, will be open to all Chicago voters from 6:00AM – 7:00PM CT and will provide same-day voter registration, Vote by Mail ballot return, and in-person voting. “The United Center has long served as a gathering place for our city, and we are proud that it will be used this year as a voting location for the first time in its history. "The partnership from the City of Chicago and the Chicago Board of Elections was instrumental in bringing this Super Site to life, and we also want to thank the arena staff working tirelessly to provide Chicagoans another convenient and socially-distanced option to vote." All COVID-19 safety guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Illinois Department of Public Health will be in place at the United Center, and voters can expect to see 6 feet of distance between polling stations, plexiglass dividers, and hand sanitizer, with masks available as needed. The Chicago Board of Elections encourages everyone to make a plan to vote this election. If voters plan to register in-person on Election Day, they’ll need two forms of identification, at least one of which shows the voter’s current address. The United Center will also have a Secured Drop Box available for voters to return Vote by Mail ballots in their signed, sealed Ballot Return Envelope. To access the polling place, voters will be directed to park in Lot K (gate off Adams Street) and enter via the South Atrium Entrance. Plan your vote at ChicagoElections.gov and learn more about the Uniter Center Super Site at UnitedCenter.com/VOTE or by following the United Center on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. ### .

  • Chicago Blackhawks to Support Epilepsy Awareness Month at November 15Th Game Local Woman Reaches out and Stanley Cup Champions Take Action
Please Go And Enjoy Your Life. Danny Did. ® FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Chicago Blackhawks to Support Epilepsy Awareness Month at November 15th Game Local Woman Reaches Out and Stanley Cup Champions Take Action November 13, 2015 – Chicago, IL – The Chicago Blackhawks will recognize National Epilepsy Awareness Month during their November 15th game versus the Calgary Flames. Epilepsy is a neurological disease characterized by recurrent seizures that is projected to impact 1 in 26 Americans over a lifetime, per the Institute of Medicine. The Blackhawks were motivated to advocate by Erin Gard, a Chicago-area native who has suffered from epilepsy since the age of 8. Now 24, Gard took action to raise awareness after years of keeping her journey private. Her first move was to contact Chicago Blackhawks Chairman Rocky Wirtz. “My name is Erin Gard and I am a massive fan of the Blackhawks,” Gard wrote to Wirtz. “I'm writing to you not to ask for a signed picture or puck, but something more important to me. I am trying to get epilepsy awareness into sports so not just some people, but everyone will know about epilepsy. So many are starting with the NFL, but I wanted to be the first to get the NHL to show support for epilepsy during November. This is very important to me because I've had epilepsy since I was 8 and I’m 24 now. I was hoping the Hawks could be the first to show support and help to spread awareness.” The Blackhawks responded by inviting Gard to have two advocacy organizations close to her – the Danny Did Foundation (DDF) and the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago (EFGC) – to provide information on epilepsy at Sunday’s game.

BY ANDREW THURSTON Chicago loves sports. The natives jam into Wrigley Field for the Cubs, pack U.S. Cellular Field for the White Sox, fill up Soldier Field for the Bears, and squeeze into United Center for the Bulls. Chicago’s National Hockey League (NHL) team, the Blackhawks, has had a trickier time selling seats. And that’s being polite. An Analysis of Taxpayer Funded Pro Hockey Arenas & their Comparables Conor Palendat Bachelor’s Thesis Degree Programme in Sport and Leisure Management 2017/18 Abstract Date Author(s) Conor Palendat Degree programme Sports and Leisure Management Report/thesis title Number of pages An Analysis of Taxpayer Funded Pro Hockey Arenas & their Com- and appendix pages parables 35 + 0 The prevalence of taxpayer funded sports stadiums is a hot topic in today’s sporting world. The goal is to look at the hockey arenas in the NHL and determine whether having tax- payer funded arenas are at all worth it for the city. To accomplish this, we need to look at what the current trends are in regard to arena con- struction. Are the teams paying for the bulk of the cost or are the cities? Also, how does the arena situation in the NHL compare to that of the other major North American sports, the NFL, MLB and NBA. In doing so we get a greater understanding of what the market norm is and whether pro hockey is in line with, behind, or even surpassing the other sports regarding public spending. In doing so, we gain a greater understanding of the issue that is the decision to fund, or not fund these arenas with public dollars. There is then a concise and detailed look at the pos- sible merit of using public funds to build professional sports arenas. At its conclusion, the paper provides a detailed look for both team leaders and the public alike to make an informed decision on whether they want their tax dollars going toward pro hockey arenas or if the money is better spent in other areas.
