BRIDGEPORT SOUND TIGERS: COACHES BIOS BRENT THOMPSON - HEAD COACH Brent Thompson is in his eighth season as head coach of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, which also marks his 10th year in the New York Islanders organization. Thompson was originally hired to coach the Sound Tigers on June 28, 2011 and led the team to a division title in 2011-12 before being named assistant South Division coach of the Islanders for two seasons (2012-14). On May 2, 2014, the Islanders announced Thompson would return to his role as head coach of the Sound Tigers. He is 258-219-52 in 529 career regular-season games as Bridgeport's head coach. Thompson became the Sound Tigers' all-time winningest head coach on Jan. 28, 2017, passing Jack Capuano with his 134th career victory. Prior to his time in Bridgeport, Thompson served as head coach of the Alaska Aces (ECHL) for two years (2009-11), winning the Kelly Cup Championship in 2011. During his two seasons as head coach in Alaska, Thompson amassed a record of 83- 50-11 and won the John Brophy Award as ECHL Coach of the Year in 2011 after leading the team to a record of 47-22-3. Thompson also served as a player/coach with the CHL’s Colorado Eagles in 2003-04 and was an assistant with the AHL’s Peoria Rivermen from 2005-09. Before joining the coaching ranks, Thompson enjoyed a 14-year professional playing career from 1991-2005, which included 121 NHL games and more than 900 professional contests. The Calgary, AB native was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the second round (39th overall) of the 1989 NHL Entry Draft. ERIC BOGUNIECKI - ASSISTANT COACH Eric Boguniecki was named assistant coach of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on July 12, 2011 and is now in his 10th season in that capacity, including his eighth year under head coach Brent Thompson. Boguniecki and Thompson previously teamed up in Bridgeport during the 2011-12 season, when the Sound Tigers went 41-26-9 in the regular season to win the Northeast Division - the second division title in team history. Prior to joining the Sound Tigers, the West Haven, CT native enjoyed a 13-year professional career, including stops in the NHL with the Florida Panthers, St. Louis Blues, Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Islanders. During the 2002-03 season with the Blues, he posted NHL career highs in goals (22), assists (27) and points (49). An eighth-round pick (193rd overall) of the Blues in the 1993 NHL Draft, Boguniecki won the Les Cunningham Award as the American Hockey League’s Most Valuable Player in 2001-02 with the Worcester IceCats. Boguniecki ended his playing career as a player/coach with the Alaska Aces of the ECHL, alongside Brent Thompson. Boguniecki attended the University of New Hampshire from 1993-97 and played four seasons with the Wildcats. MATT CARKNER - ASSISTANT COACH Matt Carkner is in his fifth season as an assistant coach after spending the previous 15 years as a defenseman in the AHL and NHL, including four seasons with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers and New York Islanders. He was named assistant coach on July 7, 2016. A native of Winchester, ON, Carkner played more than 800 games during his professional career, including NHL contests between the Islanders, San Jose Sharks and Ottawa Senators. He amassed 40 goals, 139 assists, 179 points and 2,312 penalty minutes as a pro, including a career-high 335 penalty minutes in his first year with the Cleveland Barons in 2001-02. During his lengthy AHL career, he posted 152 points (36g, 116a) and 1,756 penalty minutes in 587 games and finished his career with 14 points (4g, 10a) in 60 games as a Sound Tiger. A second-round pick (58th overall) of the Montreal Canadiens in the 1999 NHL Draft, Carkner was never shy to help his teammates on the ice, or the community off of it. He was named the Sound Tigers recipient of the 2015-16 IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year Award for his outstanding contributions to the Bridgeport community - the sixth time he earned the award. In addition, Carkner won the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in 2006-07. Coming off a three-win season and failing to make the Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey conference playoffs, the Aigles Bleus’ recruiting class for next season grew on Tuesday. The club announced it’s adding four 20-year-old defencemen - Vincent Lanoue, Tobie Paquette-Bisson, former Moncton Wildcat Olivier Desjardins and Dieppe’s Alexandre Bernier - for next year. Lanoue, Paquette-Bisson and Desjardins have all played at least four seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Bernier, currently with the Edmundston Blizzard in 14 février 2018 – Acadie Nouvelle the Maritime Junior Hockey League, won a QMJHL President Cup championship and played in the Memorial Cup with the Saint John Sea Dogs last season. Moncton has already landed QMJHL standout goaltender Étienne Montpetit of the Victoriaville Tigres and former Baie- Comeau Drakkar star forward Maxime St-Cy, who red-shirted this season after playing two years professionally. “The defencemen we’ve signed are leaders on their teams. When you bring in leaders from that type of league, it brings credibility,”said Damphousse, who was hired by UdeM in the new role last May. “It’s the beginning and we have a long way to go to becoming a championship team. Moving forward, we can be in the game when it comes to recruitment.

Besides my column in The Hockey News’ Ultimate Pool Guide, and my contributions to this year’s Score Forecaster (fifth year doing each), I put an ad in McKeen’s. That covers the big three hockey pool magazines and you should have at least one of them as part of your draft prep. The other thing you need, of course, is this Guide right here. It is not only updated throughout the summer, but I also make sure that the features/tidbits found in here are unique. I know what’s in the print mags and I have always tried to set this Guide apart from them. Once again, this is an automatic download – just pick it up in your downloads section. Look for one or two updates in August, then one or two updates between September 1st and 14th. After that, when training camp is in full swing, I will be updating every two or three days right into October. Make sure you download the latest prior to heading into your draft (and don’t ask me on one day if I’ll be updating the next day – I get so many of those that I am unable to answer them all, just download as late as you can). Any updates beyond this original release will be in bold blue.

Monday Oct. 28 marked the one-year anniversary of Fontana's death. Fontana was cornered and shot after stopping a car on a quiet cul-de-sac in the Almaden Valley in south San Jose, according to a San Jose Mercury News article and the Officer Jeffrey Fontana Memorial Web site. "The officers are still reluctant to talk about it," said Sgt. Steve Dixon of the San Jose police department. "They're still having a hard time dealing with it them- selves."     2021 SAN JOSE SHARKS NHL DRAFT GUIDE The San Jose Sharks currently own eight draft selections in the 2021 NHL Draft 2021 NHL DRAFT presented by Kaiser Permanente, which begins on Friday, July 23 and will be televised on ESPN2 at 5 p.m. PT. Rounds 2-7 will take place on Saturday, July 24 and will be televised on NHL Network at 8 a.m. PT. The Sharks are currently slated to make their first Round 1 selection in the first round (7th overall). ESPN2 The Sharks will host a live streaming broadcast which will take place on Saturday, July 24 during Day 2 of the 2021 NHL Draft. The show, which will air on the Sharks + SAP Center Friday, July 23 Mobile App and the Sharks Audio Network, will be hosted by the radio voices of the San Jose Sharks and San Jose Barracuda Dan Rusanowsky and Nick Nollenberger. The ⌚️ 5 p.m. PT show is scheduled to begin at approximately 10 a.m. PDT on July 24. Several members of the Sharks organization will appear on the program as Day Two of the Draft is ongoing. 7th overall 2020 DRAFT RECAP - In 2020, San Jose made nine picks, selecting Ozzy Wiesblatt in the first round (31st overall). The team then followed with two selections in the second round in Thomas Bordeleau (38th overall) and Tristen Robins (56th overall), and Rounds 2-7 proceeded to draft Danil Guschin in the third round (76th overall), Brandon Coe in the fourth (98th overall) and a franchise record four selections in the seventh round (Alex NHL Network Young, 196th; Adam Raska, 201st; Linus Oberg, 206th; Timofey Spitserov, 210th).
