Class of 1965 50th Reunion 1 2 BRANDEIS UNIVERSITY 50th Reunion 3 4 Dear Classmates, Here we are…fifty years later. What a milestone, and what a celebration! We were so delighted with the turnout at our 50th Reunion, June 5-7, 2015. It was terrific to reconnect with friends and classmates, see the transformed campus, and reflect on the top-notch education we received at Brandeis and that Brandeis still offers. This “golden celebration” afforded us the chance to come together as a class and rekindle fond memories of our Brandeis experience. Our 50th Reunion Committee worked tirelessly to provide an exciting line-up of events, from dinners and discussions to folk sing-alongs and social gatherings, all of which were memorable. As you know, we shared a digital copy of our 50th Reunion yearbook with all of our classmates before Reunion. To make sure we captured our class’s newest memories, we had a photographer take lots of pictures over Reunion weekend, and added them into this printed copy. Thank you to all for everything you did to make our 50th Reunion truly special. We trust this keepsake will remind you always of how special your Brandeis family truly is. Enjoy! With best wishes, 5 6 Special Thanks On behalf of the Institutional Advancement Division, we would like to thank the members of the Class of 1965 Reunion Committee William S. That special day — Sunday, June 5, 1966 — will remain etched in my mind forever. Now, here we are once again returning to Brandeis to celebrate another very memorable June event – the 50th Reunion for the Class of 1966. We will reconnect with friends and classmates, share memories of our time at Brandeis and marvel at how the University and we have moved forward over the last five decades. Our 50th Reunion Committee has worked diligently to create a weekend worthy of our “golden celebration” – dinners, discussions, slide shows and social gatherings. A special keepsake of Reunion is the class yearbook. Thanks to all who sent in submissions. We are especially grateful to Phyllis Cohen and Bert Foer for their efforts in spearheading this project. Faraone A Dissertation submitted to the Faculty of the Graduate School, Marquette University, in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy Milwaukee, Wisconsin May 2013 ABSTRACT URBAN RIFTS AND RELIGIOUS RECIPROCITY: CHICAGO AND THE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1965-1996 Dominic E. Faraone Marquette University, 2013 From the late 1960s onward, a sequence of unusually transformative, combustible, and sometimes alarming urban phenomena beset the city of Chicago and bred considerable turmoil and uncertainty: post-industrial transition; street gang activity and unprecedented levels of interpersonal violence; the political ascendancy in 1983 of African American reform candidate Harold Washington to the mayor’s seat; gay liberation; and AIDS. Each accentuated a host of social and/or spatial rifts—between the deteriorating city and comparatively thriving suburbs; the economically impoverished, culturally alienated, and frequently isolated inner city and the rest of Chicago; machine and reform politicians; Black lawmakers and White “ethnics”; sexual majorities and minorities; and the physically sick and the healthy. These developments also challenged the historic liberalism, confidence, and institutional breadth of Chicago Catholicism during the tenures of Cardinal Archbishops John Cody (1965-1982) and Joseph Bernardin (1982-1996).

  • The Ultimate Complete Michael Bloomfield Discography
The Ultimate Complete Michael Bloomfield Discography Michael Bloomfield December 7, 1964 “The music you listen to becomes the soundtrack of your life....” Michael Bloomfield Feb. 13, 1981 Compiled by René Aagaard, Aalekaeret 13, DK-3450 Alleroed, Denmark - [email protected] www.the-discographer.dk - Copyright September 2014 Version 9 Michael Bernard Bloomfield was born July 28, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois and was found dead in his car in San Francisco, California on February 15, 1981. Between these dates he made a lasting impression on the world of music. Today he is still considered one of the greatest and most influential white guitarists from the USA. He learned by listening to all the great black musicians that played Chicago in the ’50s and early ’60s - people like Howlin’ Wolf, Muddy Waters, Big Joe Williams, Sleepy John Estes and many more. He was always eager to join them on stage and made quite a name for himself. He also played with many white musicians his own age, like Barry Goldberg, Charlie Mussel- white, Nick Gravenites and whoever toured Chicago. In the early ’60s, barely 20 years old, he was the musical director of a Chicago blues club called The Fickle Pickle. Here he hired many of the old, black blues legends, and he treated them so well that Big Joe Williams even mentions him in a song about the club, “Pick a Pickle”. In 1964 Michael Bloomfield was “discovered” by legendary producer John Hammond, Sr., who went to Chicago to hear and record Bloomfield, and then invited him to New York to audition for Columbia Records.
