Dear Messrs Prof John Herbert and Steve Coombs I am writing this letter in an attempt to add further weight to my application for a Car Park here at the Lantern Pike Inn, ref as above. On 17th December I received a visit form Mr Andrew Bingham, MP for High Peak where we spoke about our proposed development plan for a Car Park and the importance of the Pub to the local community. Mr Bingham then followed up his visit with a letter of support where he outlines all the reasons why the pub is so important not only to the Little Hayfield but to the as a whole. Please find a copy of his enclosed. May I also remind you that I had a similar letter of support from the former MP Mr Tom Levitt, where he also alluded to the importance of the pub to the village community; I have enclosed a copy of his letter as well. Whilst I understand and support the principles of the PDNPA regarding conservation and that they should take precedence, I can not think that there must be occasions where the principles have to be compromised for the greater good; in my opinion the approval of this car park would be a case in point. At the risk of repeating myself and please forgive me if this sounds like a lecture but the Lantern Pike Inn is essentially the 'village hall', we are the venue for various village groups (i.e. The Little Hayfield Trust, The Little Hayfield Advisory Committee, The Clough Mill owners Committee etc.), we are the only retail outlet of any description (now that the public telephone is about to disappear). The values embodied in the Peak Park Regulations need to be upheld and help to "foster the economic and social well-being of local communities within the National Park" Can I also draw your attention to the published shared vision that the Peak District: • A living, modern, innovative Peak District that contributes positively to vibrant comrrmnities for both residents and people in neighbouring urban areas, and demonstrates • A viable and thriving Peak District economy that capitalises on its special qualities and promotes a strong sense of identity. Without the Car Park there would be no future for the pub, the village would loose its vibrancy, it would be unwelcoming to visitors and the village would loose its identity; please don't let the Lantem Pike become another national statistic. According to The Economist, 16 December 2010 ''More than half the villages in Britain now have no pub at all". And finally, remember the writings of Hilaire Belloc "When you have lost your inns, drown your empty selves, for you will have lost the last of . "

Yours sincerely
