Dept. of Journalism and Mass Communication Doaba College, Jalandhar Abstract The Punjabi film industry is currently in its growth stage. The Punjabis in the Diasporas gave a new dimension to the Punjabi identity. It has brought a massive boost in the cinema and film music. Pollywood in the North Indian film industry is commercial and art cinema Punjabi is in its initial stage. Producers target just clientele and seldom take the risk. Crisp comedy films overpower an experiment in production, rare themes and different genres. The research did a descriptive analysis with the support of unstructured and semi- structured interviews of producers, actors, and Pollywood directors. The research also explores the need and importance of film institute and film clubs to sensitize the Punjabi audiences regarding the film as a medium, film grammar, and aesthetics. The research also focused on the marketing trends and the vital role of social media in multiplexes' age. Pollywood also lacks in skills and availability of high-end studios for post-production. Indirect taxes and expensive multiplex as a hindrance to attracting rural audiences to remote areas in Punjab. Keywords: Pollywood, Diasporas, multiplex, approach, revival.     Sommersemester 2013 Liebe Filmfreunde, wir freuen uns, dass Euch unser quadratisches Programmheft mal wieder gefunden hat. Gleich vorneweg: Ihr seid ein großartiges Publikum, viele Gesichter sind uns schon bestens vertraut. Dank Euch haben wir im Wintersemester den Besucherrekord gebrochen: Seit dem Start der »aktuellen Pupille« im Jahr 997 – gleichzeitig auch der Beginn der statistischen Aufzeichnungen – sind wir das erste Mal dreistellig, d.h. genau 00 Gäste kamen im Schnitt pro Vorstellung. Das ist für das kommende Semes- ter eine wirklich hohe Meßlatte, zumal ein großer Teil der Studierendenschaft den Campus Bockenheim bereits verlassen hat. Das Studierendenhaus und somit auch die Pupille bleiben aber vorerst am altbekannten Ort, denn ein neues Haus muss ja erst einmal gebaut werden (und das kann noch etwas dauern). Neben dem großen Publi- kumszuspruch wurden wir Oktober 202 auch mit dem Hessischen Kinokulturpreis geehrt, was uns schon ein wenig stolz macht. Im Sommersemester gibt es folgende Highlights, die hier erwähnt sein wollen: Pulp Fiction kennt wohl jeder, doch wann habt Ihr ihn zuletzt (im Kino) gesehen? Hierzu- lande seit mehr als zehn Jahren nicht mehr erhältlich, hat die Pupille eine OmU-Kopie und die Rechte in Schottland organisiert und schickt den Film von April bis Juli auf eine Unikinotournee mit einem Dutzend Spielstätten! Außerdem zeigen wir eine ein- wöchige Werkschau von Leos Carax (siehe nächste Seite). Es bleibt uns nur noch, Euch viel Spaß zu wünschen und vor allem dem AStA und allen Kooperationspartnern, im Besonderen dem Institut français, Adrian Martin und Cristina Álvarez López, der Nippon Connection, Dr. Marc Siegel und dem Offenen Haus der Kulturen zu danken.

The new technology, which by now has become standard for moving images of any kind, has put into question existing assumptions and created paradoxes from a continuity between two different media that are, however, thought of as one medium. I address that problem from the perspective of surrealist film theory, which insisted on paradoxes and saw cinema as an art form that necessarily operated on contradictions: a quality that resonated with surrealism’s general aesthetic theory. To support my argument, I then analyze in some depth three contemporary works of cinema that possess surrealist attributes and employed digital technology in their making in a self-conscious way. Leos Carax’s Holy Motors, Pedro Costa’s Horse Money, and Seances by Guy Maddin, Evan Johnson and Galen Johnson all point to specific contradictions revealed by digital technology that they resolve, or hold in tension, in accordance with the surrealist notion of point sublime.
