9 2019 : H.E Mohamad Nasri Abdul Rahman, High Commissioner of Malaysia paid a courtesy call on Hon- orable at Sir Manasupe Haus to congrat- ulate him on his appoint- ment as the new Prime Min- ister of . The new government of Pa- pua New Guinea, popularly known as Marape-Steven cabinet was formed on 30 May 2019.

The Prime Minister acknowledged the long and fruitful relations and reaffirmed PNG’s continued sup- port and stressed that under his watch, he would work on consolidating this relationship to ensure - gible outcomes for Papua New Guinea. He expressed his intentions to visit Malaysia in November 2020, just prior to the APEC Leaders’ Summit in to further enhance existing relations as well as promote business, trade and investment opportunities.

1 Celebrating 62nd of Malaysia

31 August 2019 : The High Commission of Malaysia, in partnership with Malaysian Association of Papua New Guinea, hosted a reception to celebrate the 62nd National Day of Malaysia at APEC Haus, Port Mo- resby. The reception was attended by 200 guests comprising Malaysians in Papua New Guinea, mem- bers of Diplomatic Corps, local dignitaries, government officials, businessmen, media practitioners and friends of Malaysia.

Malaysia is the second largest investor in Papua New Guinea and it has been that way for the past decade. Total trade between Malaysia and Papua New Guinea has increased by 10.3 percent to US 611 million last year compared with the previous year. Foreign Affairs Department Deputy Secretary Mr. Joseph Varo represented Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade at the reception.

2 Meeting with the Ministers

26 2019 : H.E High Commissioner of Malaysia paid a courtesy call on Honorable William Samb, Minister of Transport at his office in Port Moresby. The two parties discussed various issues related to Maritime and Air Services of the two countries. Both Malaysia and Papua New Guinea are IMO member states.

7 2019 : H.E High Commissioner of Malaysia paid a courtesy call on Honorable Kerenga Kua, Minister of at his office in Port Moresby. The two parties dis- cussed issues related to petroleum indus- tries and the possible cooperation between Malaysia and Papua New Guinea. The Minis- ter highlighted his intention to visit Malaysia and in the near future.

7 November 2019 : H.E High Commissioner of Malaysia paid a courtesy call on Honorable Jer- emiah Manele, Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade of Solomon at his office in . The Minister acknowledged the strong bilateral relations between Solomon Is- lands and Malaysia as well as Malaysia’s assis- tant in resource development particular- ly under the MTCP program.

17 December 2019 : H.E High Commissioner of Malaysia paid a courtesy call on Honorable Pat- rick Pruaitch, Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade of Papua New Guinea at his of- fice in Port Moresby. The Minister acknowledged the strong bilateral relations between Papua New Guinea and Malaysia as well as Malaysia’s significant investment in Papua New Guinea.

26 May 2019 : H.E High Commissioner of Malaysia presented his letter of credence as non—resident High Commissioner to H.E Moses Obed Tallis, President of the Republic of Vanuatu at House Nakamal (State House) in . After the ceremony, the High Commissioner paid a courtesy call on the President in which he welcomed the High Commissioner to carry out his official duties in enhancing bilateral relations between the two countries.

Bulan Sukan Negara

12 October 2019 : The High Commission of Malaysia organised a Zumba activity in con- juction with “Bulan Sukan Negara”. The pro- gram, aimed to promote a healthy lifestyle, was held at Rita Flynn Indoor stadium at Port Moresby. Some 60 participants at- tended the program.

7 November 2019 : H.E High Commissioner of Malaysia presented his letter of credence as non—resident High Commissioner to H.E Right Reverend David Vunagi, General of Solomon Islands at Gov- ernment House in Honiara. The Governor General acknowledged the economic contribution by Malaysian companies as well as Solomon Islands’ participations in MTCP program. The High Commissioner was accompanied by Mr. Hii Yii Ging, Honorary of Malaysia to Solomon Islands.

5 Program Mendampingi Rakyat Malaysia

15 2019 : The High Commission of Malaysia organised “Program Mendampingi Rakyat Malaysia” in during H.E High Commissioner’s Familiarisation Tour to , Papua New Guinea. The program, which was held at Bungaraya restaurant, gathered some 70 Malaysians and their members residing in Lae.

12 August 2019 : H.E High Commissioner of Malaysia organised a meeting with Malaysians in Vanuatu at Ramada Resort, Port Vila, during his working visit to the Republic of Vanuatu. There are about 20 Malaysi- ans currently living in Vanuatu.

6 November 2019 : A “ Program Mendampingi Rakyat Malaysia” was held at Jina’ Restaurant, Honiara during the working visit by H.E High Commissioner of Malaysia to Solomon Islands. Some 120 Malaysians and their family members attended the program.

6 Engagement with Malaysian Companies

16 January 2019 : H.E High Commissioner of - sia visited Group of Companies HQ in Port Moresby. The High Commissioner was re- ceived and briefed by Directors Mr. Ivan Lu and Mr. Nathaniel Ho on the operation and man- agement of the company. Rimbunan Hijau is the biggest Malaysian investor in Papua New Guinea.

13 March 2019 : H.E High Commissioner of Malaysia visited UMW Heavy Machinery HQ in Port Moresby. The company focuses on the sales and services of heavy equipment and industrial products. The High Commissioner was received and briefed by General Manager Mr. Dash S. Rayat and Mr. Kelvin Ho. Be- sides sales and services, UMW has also a training centre on heavy industry at her plant in Lae.

22 July 2019 : H.E High Commissioner of Malaysia received a visit from Innovision Ltd of Yayasan Sa- bah at the chancery. The delegation was headed by Managing Director Mr. Dalahan Buduk and accom- panied by Mr. Chew Pang Heng. Innovision Ltd has invested in industry in . The pur- pose of the visit was to inform the decision to open their operation centre in Port Moresby.

6 November 2019 : H.E High Commissioner of Malaysia visited Guadalcanal Plains Palm Oil Limited (GPPOL) in Honiara, Solomon Islands. GPPOL is a subsidiary of Palm Oil Ltd, a plantation company owned by Plantation Malaysia. The High Commissioner was received and briefed by General Manager of GPPOL, Mr. Craig Gibsone on the operation and management of the company.

7 ASEAN

10 September 2019 : ASEAN Heads of Mission Meeting and Luncheon hosted by H.E High Commission- er of Malaysia was held at Vision City, Port Moresby. Other ASEAN ambassadors, H.E Dr.Bien V.Tejano of the and H.E Andriana Supandy of were also present at the meeting.

25 August 2019 : ASEAN Football Matches between Malaysia and Indonesia were held at Sir John Guise stadium Port Moresby. Both teams had shown a high spirit of ASEAN games during the matches. The High Commissioner of Malaysia and the Ambassa- dor of Indonesia were also present to support their teams. The first round of the match won by Indone- sia 2-1 and the second won by Malaysia 2-0.
