BOX 13  Cedarbrook: A low-income housing complex in Plainfield, NJ. Heningburg worked to get local approval for redevelopment of the complex in 2004.  Newark Affirmative Action Program: copies of affirmative action operating procedures in Newark, copy of an ordinance, correspondence, other documentation.  Minority/ethnic breakdown: Affirmative action guidelines from the state of New Jersey and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.  Affirmative Action: Correspondence, news clippings, memoranda and other documents related to New Jersey’s 1975 affirmative action law.  “A Plan of Action for the Greater Newark Business Community to Resolve the Crisis in our City,” by the Greater Newark Urban Coalition, 1968. Folder with this includes photos.  Stimulus fund (2009): Correspondence regarding the federal stimulus bill in 2009, including a letter Heningburg sent to Gov. Jon Corzine.  Brochure about Diggs, a minority-owned construction company.  Correspondence, news clippings, other publications dealing with the New Jersey Devils, the construction of the Prudential Center arena, and affirmative action.

 New Jersey Education Reform Project: Four publications from between 1974 and 1979 dealing with education reform in New Jersey, as well as a folder of information on the Cornwall Center, an urban studies think tank at Rutgers University in Newark. Also contains Heningburg’s corrected birth certificate from (spelling of his first name changed).  Emmy Award: Letter from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences congratulating Heningburg on his 1977 nomination for an Emmy Award.  Reverse Discrimination: Includesinformation about the 1978 U.S. Supreme Court decision Regents of the University of v. Bakke. The court ordered the university to admit a white student who had sued for reverse discrimination, but upheld the constitutionality of affirmative action. This folder also contains a 1997 Star-Ledger series on the 30th anniversary of the Newark riots, articles from the 1990s on discrimination in New Jersey and nationwide, and clippings on a 1976 New Jersey Supreme Court ruling outlawing quotas to remedy discrimination. There is also a Star-Ledger clipping on a 1989 U.S. Supreme Court decision outlawing “setaside programs” for public contracts.  James, Sharpe: Press releases, publicity photo, resume, news clippings, correspondence concerning former Newark mayor.  S.J. Includes information about Tony Gomes, a developer tasked with building affordable housing on Elizabeth Avenue in Newark.
