Laura Galindo in Concert! ONE NIGHT STAND LAURA GALINDO IN CONCERT! OCTOBER 16 @ 7PM ET LAURA GALINDO IN CONCERT! OCTOBER 16 @ 7PM ET FEATURING Creator/Performer LAURA GALINDO Guitar JULIAN BRIONES Percussion ISAIAH HAZZARD Keys SAM REVAZ Synth & Percussion GREG TOCK Bass HENRY TRINDER Ars Nova operates on the unceded land of the Lenape peoples on the island of Manhahtaan (Mannahatta) in Lenapehoking, the Lenape Homeland. We acknowledge the brutal history of this stolen land and the displacement and dispossession of its Indigenous people. We also acknowledge that after there were stolen lands, there were stolen people. We honor the generations of displaced and enslaved people that built, and continue to build, the country that we occupy today. We gathered together in virtual space to watch this performance. We encourage you to consider the legacies of colonization embedded within the technology and structures we use and to acknowledge its disproportionate impact on communities of color and Indigenous peoples worldwide. We invite you to join us in acknowledging all of this as well as our shared responsibility: to consider our way forward in reconciliation, decolonization, anti-racism and allyship. We commit ourselves to the daily practice of pursuing this work. ABOUT THE ARTISTS LAURA GALINDO (Creator/Performer) is a Colombian theater and music maker. In the last year, she’s been a resident with Ars Nova’s Makers Lab, BarnArts in Maine and The New Victory Theatre’s Labworks Program. Her one-woman-and-her-band musical, Annie Aspen’s Musical Space Spectacular!, was featured in Ars Nova’s 2019 ANT Fest. It’s a love for connection that brought her to music and theater, both in the ways that the disciplines intersect and the potential they have to communicate profoundly with others. She’s working on new music with her bandmates, too. JULIAN BRIONES (Guitar) is a guitarist, composer and producer raised in the lower Hudson Valley. From a very young age Julian loved music and dabbled in many different instruments before deciding in high school that the guitar most accurately encapsulated his voice as an artist. Now Julian’s goal is to help spread joy, love and humor as a force of good in a world that is often consumed by negativity. ISAIAH HAZZARD (Percussion) is a drummer, producer and educator from Vashon Island, Washington. Currently based in Brooklyn after graduation from NYU, Isaiah plays professionally in numerous projects, including Good Morning Club, Stello, Stolen Jars and Moziah. Through performance and collaboration, Isaiah strives to inspire and empower others to follow their unique creative paths. Outside of music and education, Isaiah loves to write stories, do improv comedy, read, go hiking and play sports with friends. SAM REVAZ (Keys) is an NYC-based musician and composer. After graduating from NYU with a degree in jazz piano performance, he worked as a teaching artist until the pandemic struck. He continues to play music distantly via the virtual realm and is excited to lend his fingers and mind for another collaboration with the esteemed rock star Laura Galindo. Peace and love. GREG TOCK (Synth & Percussion) is a Brooklyn-based drummer, engineer and producer. Since graduating from NYU with a degree in music technology, he records and mixes music professionally at recording studios such as The Bridge Studio and Short Stack NY. Greg acts as the bridge between the artist and the listener, turning the inspiration into an experience. When he’s not recording or performing, Greg enjoys cooking, skateboarding and spending time outdoors with friends. HENRY TRINDER (Bass) is a writer and musician from southern Virginia, who is currently working towards a library science certification so as to coexist with old books for all of eternity. SELECT FAIR MIAMI 2014 7200-7300 Collins Avenue MILK AND NIGHT PRESS RELEASE Miami Beach Milk and Night is a collective of guest artists and curators who explore the role of feminism in the art world. Together, we share a vision inspired by traditional feminist practices channeled through contemporary artists and media, offering a unique platform of intellectualism with the new generation of voices. Milk and Night creates exhibition programs, discussion panels, and performance events. It first showed as a group exhibition in September 2014 at Gallery Sensei in New York City. It has since established an on-going residency at the gallery and will be hosting quarterly events from 2014-2016. On-going guest curators are Anne Sherwood Pundyk, Katie Cercone, Kate Eberstadt. Founding director/curator Coco Dolle. "Feminism" is a powerful buzzword right now, as evidenced across public discourse: from Emma Watson's UN Speech, to Beyonce's VMA performance in front of the word itself, to the countless think pieces blowing up your news feed. This global spotlight provides an unparalleled opportunity to explore this term and recreate the world we live in. Despite the art world's reputation for progressivism, it is an epicenter of gender inequality. Male artists comprise 70% of gallery representation and earn on average 83% more than their female counterparts. Art Basel brings together some of the most interesting creative minds, and yet is so commonly associated with decadence, celebrity, wealth, and glamour, a huge missed opportunity for change. As a means to both explore the current dialogue on feminism and to overcome the gender gap, Milk and Night ’s presence at Select Art Fair – Miami Art Basel would represent this important dialogue as the only booth dedicated solely to feminist art.
