We are seeking an experienced communicator to help share and promote ways we can all become more climate ready!

Knowledge of climate adaptation in local government is advantageous but not essential. This expression of interest is open to any staff member from across the 8 Resilient East partner Councils.

Resilient East is a regional climate initiative between state and local government organisations in eastern . It is about making sure the eastern region remains a vibrant, desirable and productive place to live, work and visit, and that our businesses, communities and environments can respond positively to the challenges and opportunities presented by a changing climate.

This partnership includes Campbelltown City Council, the Cities of Adelaide, Burnside, Norwood Payneham and St Peters, Prospect, Tea Tree Gully, Unley, the Town of Walkerville and the Government of . Resilient East regularly works with agencies and organisations from all levels of government, NGOs, community groups, individuals and the private sector.

This position is funded by the Green Adelaide Board through the Landscape Levy.

Resilient East Communications Officer – Position Description

1. Job Identification Title: Resilient East Communications Officer Reports to: Resilient East Coordinator Hiring process: Secondment, through your existing Council reimbursed by Resilient East via The following are negotiable, but these are the preferences based on availability and candidate Level: 5 Days per week: 2-3 days a week, preferably on Monday, Thursday and/or Friday Length of position: 1 March to 30 June 2021 (4 months) Location: (Depot, King William Rd), work from home, or your existing workplace

2. Overall objectives The actions within the Resilient East Action plan for 2020/2021 includes a strong focus on building our communications and capacity building potential. We received a grant specifically to deliver on a water communications project that will include videos as a key channel, and this project requires support.

Overall objectives: • Complete a final draft of the Communications Toolkit by May 2021. • Develop the Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) Communications Project by June 2021 • Using existing technical information, create tangible content that Councils can use

3. Key Responsibilities

• Furthering development of the Communications Toolkit, this may involve: o Key values and principles for communicating o Review existing and further develop key messaging for our various target audiences o Media and promotions guide o Scope suitable channels available for communications o Updating content for the ‘content calendar’ and creating an adaptive three-year plan

o Contribute communications metrics and templates for reporting into the Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting plan o Further development of branded resources (templates) for Resilient East partners to use o Supporting capacity building plan (led by Coordinator) • Develop and support delivery of the WSUD Communications project in conjunction with WSUD working group, this may involve: o Reviewing existing work and project scope, o Proposing specific video content brief, o Video Storyboarding and scheduling, and o Developing content and script. • Develop and adapt other ready-to-use content for use of Resilient East partners.

4. Experience and Skill requirements Essential • Proven relevant experience in the public relations and/or communications and/or marketing industry. • Experience in writing and developing plans and content for a variety of audiences. • An ability to develop and implement creative and engaging content for various print and digital channels. • Proven experience in working across multiple platforms, including web, social and videography, while being able to adapt to various target audiences for a range of purposes. • Experience in videography, storyboarding and / or working with videographers. • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and in a team environment. • Excellent organisational skills with demonstrated capacity to manage multiple and competing tasks and set priorities. • A sound understanding of current and emerging trends within content marketing, with experience in developing content and distributing across multiple channels. • Proficiency with MS Office. • Interest and basic understanding of climate change.

Desirable • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in communications, marketing and/or journalism are desirable • Experience in strategic communications and brand development. • Experience using graphic design software. • Experience in community engagement.
