This edition includes some new events & opportunities in most of the sections below– many have deadlines coming up in the next week or two- so please explore them ASAP.

For example: --In the ACADEMICS section, there is a free summer STEP/STEM program offered by Vaughn College of Aeronautics – it is targeted for low-income

2 students or those from under-represented groups, but all may apply – the deadline to do so is Monday, June 14! And today is the application deadline for free summer classes with the TGR Foundation and The BMCC College Now Program.

--In the BUSINESS/JOBS section, there are deadlines this week for several virtual Internship Programs, a personal financial literacy program for high school students, a virtual Career Day, and a free summer Externship Program covering development of business knowledge & skills offered by AT&T.

--In the LEADERSHIP/GOVERNMENT section, there are numerous excellent options with fast-approaching deadlines. These include political campaign spots affiliated with Manhattan Assemblywoman Yuh-Line Niou, the online NextGen summer civics fellowship, the Student Advocacy Project for the 2012-2022 school year (open to all students) offered by the Coalition for Asian-American Families, and the one-week Youth Food Advocates training program in August.

--In the STEM section, this week brings deadlines for some excellent summer programs, including Girls Rise Up (which combines dance with coding!). And the DNA Learning Centers in Brooklyn & Long Island offer fascinating online and in-person Genetics-related courses throughout the summer. New: Cooper Union Summer STEM Summer STEM will offer three-week virtual programs in design, engineering and hands-on problem-solving. Class projects will cover topics from current problems in civil, chemical, electrical, and mechanical engineering. Students gain knowledge in an engineering field and guidance to address a real-world problem by designing and engineering a solution. Session 2 seats are still open for students to apply. Deadline Approaching: The Baruch College STEP Academy offers various STEM courses for students. The Research Scholar Courses incorporate research elements that students will complete. Courses include Understanding Biases & Social Justice, Social Issues with Technology Development, and Social Psychology: the study of close relationships. The Science Exploration Courses allows students to explore a topic of interest, such as Anatomy, Physiology, or Climate Change.

The York College Summer STEP Program “introduces high school students to research-related activities, and increases their cybersecurity, programming, math knowledge and experimental skills.” Students may then be eligible to apply for other STEP program activities like the Summer Research Academy, Coding Summer Bootcamp, virtual tutoring, and more. Lebanon Valley College Summer One-Week Actuary Camp Students with an interest in actuarial science, math, and finance are welcome to apply for either the late June or mid-July sessions. Students will work in teams and present their solutions to relevant problems; practicing actuaries will give real time presentations and work with students on mini-projects.

“Kalos Academy, an all-volunteer nonprofit which is focused on closing educational access gaps for first-generation, low-income (FGLI) , and other underrepresented students, is excited to offer a new Summer STEM Corps: a team of experienced STEM mentors from Princeton and George universities! 104 Virtual Physician Shadowing & Course with Baseline Med “Welcome to Virtual Shadowing | Nano Course in Emergency Medicine! This is an online program that you can take on your own time. Watch over the shoulder of one of our physicians, nurse practitioners, or PAs as they go bedside in the ED to assess and diagnose a simulated patient. Each video is followed-up by a series of questions posed to the student and then a summary by the physician. A short quiz on the topic addressed finalizes each class.
