Dichos accidentes geográficos —reverenciados como apus, wakas y paqarinas— constituyeron los escenarios en los que se protagonizaron importantes aconteci- mientos históricos y míticos. Como elementos tangibles y reales, enraizaron y fortalecieron a los diferentes ayllus y grupos humanos del valle durante la hegemonía andina prehispánica. Abstract The mountains which define the valley of Cusco and which were responsible for its occupation have been considered sacred within the context of Andean magico-religiosity. These geographical features —rever- entially referred to as apus, wakas and paqarinas— constituted sites in the landscape that gave rise to important historical and mythical events. As real and tangible places, these landscape features engendered and nourished the different ayllus during the pre-Hispanic hegemony of these human groups within the valley. Arqueología y Sociedad, Nº 18, 2007 Petroglifos y relieves en templos, conventos y Casonas del Cusco Germán Zecenarro Benavente* Resumen En ciertas edificaciones levantadas a partir del Siglo XVI, existen piedras de origen prehispánico que presentan sobre sus superficies enigmáticas incisiones y relieves de diseño particular; elementos pertenecientes al mundo religioso y ritual andino. En Cusco quedan muchos e importantes vestigios de este tipo de expresión cultural que, por su relación con determinados espacios urbanos, tipologías arquitectónicas virreinales o antiguos contextos sagrados Inkas, se les pueden atribuir contenidos mágico religiosos que han trascendido y perdurado en el tiempo junto con la arquitectura occidental implantada, confirmándose la continuidad de las entidades sagradas andinas. Abstract In some edifications lifted up starting from the XVI Century, there are ancient stones that show on their surfaces enigmatic incisions, elements that belong to the religious and ritual Andean World. There are many important traces of these cultural expressions in Cusco than, by their relation with particular urban spaces, some architectonic typologies from the Virreinato or Inka's antique sacred contexts, can attach them magician and religious contents. The Inca Empire, an Andean state in power during the 15th and early 16th centuries, used the zeqe system, a network of ritual pathways connecting wakas, or sacred places, as a tool to keep the elite and others tied to the state. The locations of these wakas were recorded by colonial writers in the late 16th and 17th centuries. In my thesis, I argue that there are wakas and perhaps zeqes that were not recorded by the Spanish that pertained to the zeqe system and examine what may define a zeqe line using visual and cluster analysis through GIS software.
