This Centre will be none of the following: a training ground for French national identity, a cosy national feel-good venue, a parallel university, a forum, or a pulpit. Nor will it be a pageant of diversities and pluralities that masks the singular and continuous nature of this country. With its metaphorical doors and windows wide open, it will encourage the greatest possible number of people to familiarize themselves with documents, “footprints”, images, sounds, writings and ideas.
