Richard Lander School Admissions Policy Richard Lander School follows the Local Authority Admissions Policy and, along with all other LA schools in Cornwall, places on transfer from primary school are allocated by the County team who follow the agreed Common Admissions Policy. The policy complies with the School Admissions Code 2014, the School Admission Regulations 2008, the School Standards and Framework Act 1998, the Education Act 1996 and CornwaII Council’s Fair Access Protocol and offers admission to students irrespective of social, racial or religious considerations. The Governing Body, however, reserves the right to consider each applicant individually. This applies particularly to any student who has been permanently excluded from another school, both within this Local Authority and within any other. Children with a Statement of Special Educational Needs that names Richard Lander School will be admitted to the School, regardless of the number on roll in the year group. The school will participate fully in the Cornwall Local Authority’s Fair Access Protocol (See Appendix 1). Children in Care who are directed to the school by the Local Authority will be admitted to the school, regardless of the number on roll in the year group. Our ‘published admission number’ is 270 students in years 7-11. These figures relate to the 2015–16 academic year. It is essential that parents realise that there is always a high demand for places at Richard Lander, consequently once the school year has commenced, the preference for specific subjects in Years 10 and 11 cannot always be met. The Summer term was a busy me for us at the Cornwall Music Educaon Hub with our annual Hubbub fesvals at Heartlands and The Royal Cornwall Showground as well as the Chairman's Charity Concert. We hope you enjoy the photos and we look forward to seeing you at our forthcoming events! What is the Cornwall Music Education Hub and what does it do? The Cornwall Music Educaon Hub is funded by the Department for Educaon, through Arts Council England, to support schools across Cornwall with their music educaon. It’s a partnership of organisaons, led by Cornwall Council, who work together to provide high quality musical acvies, opportunies and events for all children and young people. Last year we launched our ‘MBA Way’ which everyone has embraced and which is now starting to show some amazing results. In conjunction with our High Performance Learning and commitment to Global Goals, they are now all embedded in our school life and providing the focus for our learning. “Empathy is seeing with the eyes of another, listening with the ears of another and feeling with the heart of another.” Alfred Adler This week in our Crew Meetings we have been looking at the way in which we celebrate our students excelling in their work or behaviour. They also gave their views on how they could be rewarded with a system to replace the Vivo system we have used in the past. After half term we will be introducing the MBA passport, a new way to record our excellent work and celebrate the success that this can bring. Students will be able to receive credits from staff and tutors that can be converted to points and exchanged in the school shop for prizes. My colleagues have also been working hard planning for our forthcoming Project Week and I am pleased to GLOBAL CHAMPION say that up to 30 students will be working with Miss Wheeler to reinstate our poly tunnel into the new community GrowSpace. In keeping with our policy to re-use and recycle as much as we can, we have appealed to the local community for any surplus compost, pots and tools which we will be using to grow food for a number of local groups including the Street Food Project Penzance.
